I've searched the web and am in need of serious help!

I've played on decks on and off for the last 14 years and have recently got into computer music. I've bought myself a behringer bcr2000 and have been tinkering with this and ableton which i found really easy to set up and use.

Recently I discovered Traktor and can see endless possibilities but i have one massive problem...

i can't get the bcr to work with traktor scratch pro.

I am currently running windows vista. I have traktor scratch pro and the bcr.

I am NOT running audio 8 DJ or anything like that.

I have a USB souncard which is the master output and i monitor via the headphone jack on my laptop.

I AM TOTALLY NEW TO ALL THIS! i just about got to grips with setting the bcr up for ableton. I've seen loads of threads on how to achieve the results i'm probably looking for but a lot of it is way over my head.

My funds are limited and could really do with some advice to make use of the equipment i have.

if anybody out there can help, i would be very grateful

    hopefully someboddy can help...:S

    Wevchild, Welcome To The Forum.

Please can you first tell me which version of Traktor you have.
Have you got Traktor Pro or Traktor Scratch Pro ?

What does the header say ? Is it like this below or does it just have Traktor Pro ( no scratch )..? Also what mixer do you have ?

hi karlos, thanks for the welcome

sorry, my post wan't very clear.

I have traktor scratch pro. I don't have a mixer. i was hoping to use the bcr as a mixer/effects. However if a mixer is required i do have access to one.

i have tried to use the settings as per the instruction manual but it doesn't seem to pick up any of the buttons and i am in need of some advice.

    thanks for replying

    Hi wevchild,

    welcome!

    1. does the BCR-2000 appear under TPro's "Preferences" in the "Midi devices"* section?
    2. and did you select the device with "x" as input and output device there?
    3. If that is OK, do you see in the head area of TPro's main user interface the midi symbol (next to the speaker symbol) flashing when you turn knobs on BCR?

if 1-3 is yes, then please confirm and we carry on investigation in the direction of your BCR setting and your "TSI" file..

(*) i am not at home with my system so I am not sure if this is the correct naming here

BTW. nice reading in that context:

hi rudi-j. thanks for your reply

the answer is yes to all 3 of your questions!

i've done all of the 3 things you mentioned and tried going to the midi mapping section but then i get a bit lost...

    thanks again

To get started, try something like adding a midi mapping for any simple obvious command. Try to define the necessary midi sequence from BCR-2000 by using the "learn" feature of TPro. You know how to accomplish that?
After you have deactivated the "learn" button in the midi mapping menue screen the just learned command should immediately be functional...
    does it work?

I'm just wondering wevchild, how did you manage to buy Traktor Scratch Pro without the Audio 8 DJ or timecode vinyl?

And why Traktor Scratch Pro when you don't own a mixer?

cheers rudi-j, i will try this tomorrow.

macaque, a mate of mine already had scratch pro (don't know where he got it from, sorry) and he wanted the audio 8 and vinyl. we split the cost, he got the hardware and i got the software as i (possibly wrongly) thought that traktor scratch pro would do the job. also it worked out cheaper.

am i right in thinking i can do the same job as on traktor pro or have i wasted my brass?

    thanks for your time guys

Yes, Traktor Srcatch Pro will do the same job.

But it sounds like your friend is a scamming you. He wanted the Audio 8 + vinyls to go with his copy of TSP (where it came from, nobody knows :/). So you say he got you to put up half the money? He only gave you the software (worth £100) while he got all the hardware (worth over £300). Fair?

    macaque, thanks for your reply.

we didn't split 50/50. i put up £90 which i thought was ok for the software. it's £175 from dolphin for traktor pro so i thought it wasn't a bad deal. obviously, it hasn't turned out to be quite as easy to get started as i thought!

Without knowing all the info my first hunch is that you have either got Traktor Pro (not Scratch) off your mate or he has ripped you off.

Somewhere someone has done something wrong.

Traktor Scratch Pro is NOT repeat NOT available to buy as software alone, certainly not from Dolphin (its my local store). So where he got TSP from is a mystery.

If he bought Traktor Pro (not scratch) from Dolphin (£175.00) the hardware you have both bought will not work with timecode vinyls.
So he may have shot himself in the foot.

Did he register TSP before he gave it to you.
    Are you sharing TSP. (illegal)

The nuances of all this are so complex im dont even gonna bother.(yet)

Somehow none of this makes sense .
Be aware that if members are suspected to be using illegal software there will be repercussions.

Just tying to figure this out dude.

understand where you are coming from. as i said before though, he already had traktor SCRATCH pro (i suspect it was from a torrent or the like). illegal i know however i have no control over other people.

what he bought was the full traktor scratch pro including all the hardware, which i then gave him £90 for the software. i don't believe this to be 'illegal'.

he already had TSP so there was no need to even install, nevermind register.

also ask your self, how dumb would i be to come to the native instruments site to discuss a dodgy copy of their software.

i can understand your concern and if you still doubt me i will leave the forum.

    Well technically it probably is.
TSP can only be registered to one person so you are either sharing the Registration Details (illegal) or one of you will not receive updates and support.

If you have the software and you want the next update legally you need TSP to be registered in your name.

If your mates Audio 8 goes bust he needs it registered in his name to get it swapped/fixed.

Which ever way you slice it one of you will lose out.

Unless you are sharing the Registration Details thus illegal.

Trust me it happens more than you would think. People assume that this is just another DJ Forum.

Im not asking you to leave the Forum.
Make sure you get the software registered in YOUR name .
It is possible to check if you have an NI product registered to you.

And tell your mate thats using an illegal version of TSP that hes a thief.
