I had great success with both my M-Audio Trigger Finger and my X1 (which I still use, but now for sampler functions).

    S4 or X1. depends on

    - if you have a mixer or need one
    - if you need jogs or not

without more details on the requirement it is impossible to give an advise.

    S4 manages all....therefore...:D

do you also need controls like PLAY, CUE, and faders for mixing?

an x1 can be mapped to work like a regular mixer... learning to map it might cause you to get grey hair at 15 tho....

Ohhh, come on guys... Controllers are for beginners...
THE real super-talent-DJs don't need such toys! They got everything in their blood, when they watch a crowd and touch a record they feel the vibes... Put a hand full of FX on (would say at least 2 per deck), drive all the faders to limit and then dice it all thogether (Don't forget to connect the 1990 2Unlimited Tape you specially organized for tonight)... Pray? Hope? ... Pha! YOU know sound its nothing, it have to roar like the BigBang..... A genius will CONTROL the chaos! :p :D :D

Phu, I'm well today. Got big ideas it seams...;)

No ehm back to earth.... I am really, really satisfyed with my lovely S4, a clever and clear Keyboard mapping in the Background to prepare my shows and all connected thogether to the main controller, my brain...! :p
NO WAY to change this for the moment but if you know what you whant to do there are a lot of clever controller solutions out there... For almost every workflow in several Price (Quality?)-categories... Have a look, collect facts and infos, and if at all possible, test the hardware before you make your final decision. (shoud be possible at a professional, seriously dj / Studio equipment store.)Remember: Pay 10 bucks more than in E-shop XYZ, is worth the personal service in most cases;)

This is my hand full of coins...

    cheers

What works best for me is the M-Audio Trigger Finger. I suggest that you try out various options yourself first before finally deciding which one suits you most.

Try the AKAI LPD8 the buttons are very very nice, the nobs not so nice but for the most amount of functions for your buck it will only set you back $50, I currently use 2 with my S4 to control build ups, multiple effects and cues :)
