    Logic 6

I would go Logic 5 or (Logic 6 in 2-3 weeks)..Obviously if you are on a Mac.
Logic 6 looks to be the bomb..

I use DP, love it... am continually amazed at how much it offers to me and how I make music... of course, Logic is no slouch, it's a wonderful program. I'd recommend you take a long serious look though both applications. Either one will empower you ... but each app "feels" very different from one another, and you need to find which one feels best for you and what you're comfortable with.

DP is solid, and might be perceived as less trendy... as great as Logic is, it's somewhat the "sequencer-du-jour" - and maybe more "fashionable" ... DP doesn't have this vibe to it.

But lots of pros use both, btw.

Here's my 2 cents. I am a Logic user and I've been pretty happy with it (I am using version 4.8 currently and will definitely upgrade to 6 once I switch completely over to OS X). I went through this process about a year and a half ago considering Logic, DP and Cubase. Ultimately, I decided on Logic for a couple of reasons:
    1) I number of producers I know and respect who do the same kind of music as I do really raved about it.
    2) It's very flexible (configurable) working environment.

This second aspect has made a big impact in usability for me, because I can create my own custom keyboard shortcut for seemingly every possible command in the Logic. This has sped up getting tracks recorded and edited significantly.

I will say this, though, about DP. I find that MOTU users are probably the most loyal of any MIDI software users. I also think that DP has always had the most beautifully laid out interface.

My only criticism of Logic is that it had a bit of a learning curve. I think it could be made significantly easier to use, but once I got acclimated and was able to configure my working environment to exactly the way I like to work, I've been extremely happy.

Bottom line: I don't think you'll go wrong with either.

On a related note: I truly wish both MOTU and Emagic would provide downloadable demo versions for people to tryout.
This is something that NI does, which ultimately sold me on both Reaktor and Absynth, but of the three sequencer companies I mentioned above only Steinberg provides a demo version (though their site is really annoying to navigate through).

    hope this helps!

    mark.
