Hi all, new 'Komplete 9 Ultimate' user here (running under Pro Tools 10)

Having great fun with it, & tremendous value for money, but the one thing it seems to be missing is any kind of 'drum sequencer'.

Battery is amazing in it's depth, but I had really hoped it would have some kind of sequencer & list of presets built it for a bit of instant inspiration (I know, i'm being lazy)

I had a quick looks at the 'Maschine drum selection' sequencer, & it's just too annoying fiddly to use on a day-to-day basis, as you can only see on drum at a time !

What are other folks using? Maschine itself looks great, but it looks like I have to buy the hardware for it, & I just want the software.

I'm using the Drum Editor in Cubase, not exactly a "drum machine" but it works the way I like to work, in a more linear way.

You could just use your DAW's sequencer.

I have to admit that I find that a lot easier and more flexible than using sequencers that are built into drum plugins. In fact I very rarely use built-in sequencers on my drum plugins (and I have a few of those—MicroTonic, Spark VDM and iDrum).

It makes me scratch my head in wonderment every time someone starts a new thread demanding a sequencer for Battery.

You scratch your head because someone chooses to work in a different way to you? How odd.

Yes, I admit that I scratch my head when people choose to operate in a way that seems to me to require a lot more work than necessary. But then again, people are free to choose how they want to work.

Personally, I'm quite happy that Battery has no in-built sequencer and I hope that NI keeps it that way. I don't really want to see Battery become another piece of bloat-ware. Keep things simple. Avoid unnecessary features.

I would never use a built-in sequencer since I work in PT and not standalone. Why add another layer of complexity?

Battery is more of a drum specialized sampler that's best suited by using your DAWs built in sequencer. (I say this because of the lengths they've went to fully integrating it into your host sequencer with multiple audio and midi channels as well as the extensive automation parameters.) It's not really a loop/beat machine by design. Have you considered using any of the numerous available drum sequencers for Reaktor (Massive 1.1, Memory Drum, the multitude of user built sampler/sequencers etc...) I'd look there first!

Edit: Be sure to check out RedDrum based on the Reason machine. It's a very bare-bones drum machine with a basic external sequencer. Cheers!

OP you said you have Pro Tools so this won't help you, but I use the Beat Designer plugin included with Cubase to trigger Battery. It's a step sequencer that you can map to any drum machine or VST. And you can drag your patterns into Cubase as straight MIDI sequences or as pattern triggers.
