    Hey!
I'm getting a new pair of headphones. I've been considering Pioneer HDJ 2000 and Sennheiser HD 25. Unfortiently I can't get the V-moda Crossfade LP, since they are not for sale in my coutry.
I will try both of these headphones out, but which one do you recommend and why?

I've heard that the Pioneer HDJ 2000 isn't that tough and durable as they say, any comment on that?

If you have any other suggestion, please tell me:)

    Note: 200£ is about 300$(US)

I can tell you that the HD-25s are absolutely phenomenal. I've owned them for 6 years and never had a problem. My buddies have dropped them, stepped on them, twisted them into pretzels, everything. No problems at all. They are definitely quality kit both in sound and durability. I highly recommend.

Its great that all of the cups, cables and pieces can be replaced individually should I need it too.

Okey, but I've heard that the HD 25:s aren't that good if you're sitting at home and mixing, meaning that it is not very "true" to the sound, with lack of base etc.

Man, with the act of buying headphones for your personal usage is highly recomended to try as much models as possible and decide for yourself. Every person have a different hearing, taste, and musical preferences, so, for the money you are willing to spent, there is a lot of choice. HD 25 are maybe the best all-around pair, but I personally prefer the sound of my Beyer Dynamic DJX-1.

It is up to your ears, not mine!

Agreed! Try them out, most suppliers will let you have a go.

I do a majority of my mixing at home and find the HD-25s to be fine. They are a little lacking on the low end but nothing that you wouldn't expect from a high quality pair of phones. They are super comfortable and lightweight which makes mixing around at home for hours easy and painless.

When I bought mine I did as djivobutnot suggests and tried several pair on several occasions at my local Guitar Center before making my purchase. Very happy still.

agreed... i bought a pair of NUMARK RED WAVES FOR cheap as chips £60 as they felt perfect when i put them on and sounded lovely and bassy which suit me down to the ground but my mate hates them ... different strokes for different folks ... try a few types... it could save you money.. it saved me £100 at least..!

I would look into the HD 25s, the Xone 53s, and the TMA-1. I owned the Xone 53s for a while but ended up returning them. The sound quality is excellent on them and they are really loud, but I have a small head and they are quite large and heavy. I exchanged them for the HD 25s and I am very happy with them. The sound quality is good, although I thought the Xone's were louder, and they are very comfortable headphones. I have not used the TMA-1's but I have heard good things about them.

How about the V-Moda Crossfade M-80s. They're supposed to be even better than the Crossfade LPs

    Hey Jack,

Try using google and searching for your answer! They have several newbie forums on how to DJ. It's okay to start out with low budget equipment. I know some people are poor on the forum. Best of luck to you and whatever country you people are in.

Incorrect: HD-25s have a admirably flat frequency response meaning they are "true" to the sound and in fact the bass is slightly hyped. Maybe just less hyped than models you are used to.

Having done considerable research into this I recommend and use HD-25 C II headphones as the best DJ headphone on the market today. They are also widely relied upon by live sound engineers, recording engineers, film and TV crews. The only reason I could possibly see for buying a different model is if you don't like the snug fit, but this is partly necessary to achieve their excellent levels of isolation. At a street price of approximately £150 they come in way under the OP's budget. Every single part is replaceable and they don't make you look like a cartoon robot.

Just please don't endorse / pay extra for the ghastly bright blue Addidas model!

Sure you want to spend that much?.

So i assume you do.. otherwise lets be honest.. there are great headphones around $50 for the average bedroom DJ and better headphones dont make the sound or the mix any better for the audience.

If you are buying for DJ purposes, buy based upon comfort, build quality, sound quality and price... umm kinda in that order IMO

Note that there is limited correlation between studio usage and DJ usage.. In the studio i can have heavy, delicate uncomfortable headphones .. those things do not matter provided they have a sound field, frequency and phase response that i can effectively mix 10-16 tracks with... and provide a decent match to my studio and reference monitors.. so sound quality is everything.

For my DJ rig.. comfort, weight, reliability are most important, then sound quality and price.. and comfort..

So yes i said it..sound quality for DJ headphones is not that critical.. most headphones > $40-$50 will do.... after all, they have yet to produce an audiophile PA system so muddy bass, colored midrange and shrieky highs will make it sound just like the club!..lol

read reviews online and try them on... i have sent back several pairs that attempted to crush my skull.

Could you be any more condescending?

Cheap headphones won’t hold up against a loud sound system in my opinion. For me, my HD25’s are the best DJ investment I’ve ever made in nearly 20 years.

+1 for the HD 25s. Have owned them for 1 1/2 years now, and I can't count how many times I've dropped them because I've tripped in the cable (lol). They still work flawlessly.

And if you think they lack bass, plug it into an amp and tweak the bass knob. They turn into HEAVY bass phones.

Hi. Not to hijack this thread, but it’s been over six months since the last response and I didn’t want to start a new headphone thread.

After reading a lot of positive things about the Sennheiser 25-1 II on another forum, I decided to order a pair last year. I bought them on an Amazon through a reseller. I’ve started to wonder if the set that I got are fake because I have not been impressed. I find them uncomfortable to wear and the sound is way too flat. I continue to see such great things written about them here.

To be honest, the best sounding headphones I’ve ever heard were the Monster Beats headphones. I know a lot of DJs like to rag on them, but I’ve really never experienced such a great sound in phones, they just sounded so full, it was like a whole new dimension was added to the music. I love them. However I would never consider spinning with them, as they are built way too cheaply, and I know they would fall apart on me. They are also way overpriced.

I’ve been looking to get the Soul by Ludacris headphones, because I heard that they sound comparable to Beats, but they have better build quality. They have great reviews. The only problem is that they are not available in Canada. I emailed Signeo, the company that manufactures them and they told me that they would be available in Canada within a month but that was several months ago and they are still not here.

I’m wondering if anyone here has experience with the Soul by Ludacris phones or any of the House of Marley headphones, which are available in Canada.

    Thanks!

Maaannn! I just opened up my HD 25-1 II and plugged them in my laptop. Now I know why this babies are rated among the best.

The sound isolation is freaking awesome. The sound quality is like getting a pair of studio monitors and wrapping them up around my ears!

All I can say is WOW! All this time I have been missing out on what a person gets when they get one of the best headphones.
