I work in IT as my day job and I've found Toshibas to be the most reliable laptops Ive used (and yes I do include macs in that assessment) .

Get as toshiba with an i7 processor, 4gb of ram and a minimum 7600rpg spin speed Hard Drive and you'll be golden.

Dude 1999 called, wants to know where you're been? :)

There is no such thing is a 7600 rpg...... it's 7200 rpm hard drive. Maybe a type-o on your part. :)

    Yo you so funny.
Macs work out of the box pretty tight, not much to configure.
Well you could compare a mac with lybia, everyone has to praise gaddhafi (MAC) or gets shot down.
    So everything has to work.
Well a Windows PC needs some special treatment, turning some services down, cleaning the registry, and do not install every stuff on it.
And if a Windows PC is configured correctly, and you put the same Hardwareconfiguration on a Windows VS Mac then
Performance -> Mac got owned (since Win7)
    Price -> Mac got owned

Well but in the end Loverboys do not care

I never had any issues so far running an audio 8 on a Windows 7 system (before Vista)

yes i second Toshiba, they're professional grade (travel, sturdy, etc.). Made for business abuse, and built accordingly.

Steve Jobs should get the Nobel prize in MicroBiology and DNA research, for converting perfectly sane, intelligent human beings into sheep! :D

If macs warent so expensive everyone would have 1, and we wouldn't be having this debate. Everyone would be talking about how there macs are the best thing ever.

+ 1 As well! Damn all this Mac hype! Some people DON'T HAVE MAC MONEY! I'm going the PC route & don't care how great a Mac is! :)

I wasn't even referring to Mac vs Pc, necessarily. Just the whole Apple brainwashing in general. Last summer, I'd bike to work and pass by an Apple store. There were people lined up a block and a half for 3 weeks straight, waiting to get in to buy the latest iPhone, iPod, iPad. I'd bike by, and go "mbeeehee...mbeeeeeeh" <- sheep sounds!

I've been looking at picking up a refurbished Dell M6500 17" mobile workstation. They can be had starting at around $1200 depending on the specs. The 15" model (M4500) will save you a few 100.
I think it is probably the most affordable high end notebook capable of running high end audio applications. Put an SSD in there and you are flying.

Ive been here chillin. Moved up since '99, now im in houston.

I think, U guys misinterpreted what i meant. Most people that think Macs are better than PCs probably couldnt configure them out properly or gave up trying. I was just trying to help out the original poster, but this thread has gone off topic by people going on about Mac vs PC when the dude stated in the beggining that he doesnt want a mac.

Now he's been convinced that he needs to get a mac by some people who may not even be audio professionals, some are probably just hypebeasts or mac hipsters. My PC problems arent reliability or technical issues, but mostly programming which is why i originally came to these forums for help. Ill admit that im no audio professional, but My computers are more than overqualified to run multiple NI products. My PC issues where glitchy maschine updates and hardware issues that i eventually managed to fix.

Some of u PC users that claim to have flawless working laptops running NI software probably arent running multiple apps w/ alot of hardware simultaneously. Judging by some of your signatures listing ur gear and basic setup, it doesnt surprise me that things work smoothly for you guys.
