    Howdy,

I have bought a Samsung 850 Evo 1tb SSD and it's sole use is for my Sample Libraries.

I am just wondering what the best way of setting up Kontakt 5 is with an SSD.

    Thanks for any help

Put all your sample libraries on that SSD and set global DFD buffer override in Options to 6 KB.

I'm curious...is there any benefit to using 6 KB buffers if you have plenty of RAM (other than load time)? Is there any drawbacks? IE: higher CPU, more stress, etc?

I'm using Kontakt for my live rig, so fast load times are somewhat important, but even if it is 30-45 seconds to load a bank (vs the near instant 6 KB setting), it's not a deal breaker for me...

You might be experiencing slightly higher CPU load since the CPU will ask for the data from the hard drive more often, but shouldn't be a terribly huge difference.

I am using a Samsung 850 Evo SSD and was using it with Win 8.1. With Rapid mode enabled, the thing flies. Sample Libraries load so quickly but now I have moved to Win 10 Pro, Rapid Mode isn't yet supported (apparently) which is a little annoying as the SSD no longer flies. Hopefully there will be an update soon and just thought I'd share this information incase someone didn't know...

There is a workaround for this. Find an earlier version of Samsung Magician (eg. 4.4), uninstall latest one, install the old one, enable rapid mode, then update to the latest magician. You will notice that whilst the option is still grayed out however it will state that rapid mode is enabled. Altough the mode shouldn't have any impact on real-time performance is mostly just a benchmark boost for numbers.
