OK. so as a totally new kid on the block. I was all geared up to get the big maschine but when finally went to buy seemslike most UK/europe have sold out of the big one...sowhat I can gather from here is that although mickro is cool it's not perhaps as flexible in the long run.. So the million dollar question.. How long do I have to wait? Should I wait?

£199 isn't a lot of money at all to get the Mikro considering what you are actually getting - both hardware and software.
(A Korg PadKontrol is £150 and all you are getting is a controller)

There is no confirmation of NI releasing a new controller although common sense says that everything is pointing towards that they are going to do so.
What IS known is that there will be an update to the software to 1.8.
The date of release is NOT known.

Getting the Mikro I guess will allow you to get your head into the Maschine software if you are impatient or have a couple of hundred quid to blow.

If a new maschine does come out in the meantime you can always slap the Mikro on eBay. Maschine's hold their value very well.

I probably go for the new Maschine. I had a chat with a employee of a very big music store and he told me that NI is most probably going to release a new controller. There are dozends of web shops without any Machines left so I think he is right.
I am wondering when the new device is going to be released. They are wasting quite a lot of money atm....

this isnt the first time the price has dropped i nearly bought it last time it dropped when they boxs said 1.5..also a reason lots of places have had sales is due to the ressesion thats hitting buisnesses hard especial companys that sell and develop music software/hardware...

look at the massive sale steinbergs had ..waves have had..rob papen...etc

all the big players have had sales over the past few months.in fact ive bought some top bargains that i wouldnt have been able to buy unless there had been a sale.i bought rob papen delay, distort i got both for £10 !..i bought mashine for £349 and got a free focusrite vrm box with it ! i got komplete 8 for £140 ! i bought steinberg groove agent 3 for £60 ! ..i bought halionsonic for £70 !

ive saved shed loads of money buying these in the sales and in turn my moneys helped to keep these amazing developers to continue making products for a little longer..

a sale doesnt mean theres a new hardware product coming out to compete with akkai ren..native havent mentioned anything about any new hardware..there not ditching maschine or mikro..theyve had a sale thats it !

You have to keep in mind that this time things are different. Globally, there are only few Maschine devices left in stock. All big music stores are sold out, NI themselves are sold out. This is not a normal special offer as they really want to clear stocks of every single shop.

yeah but it happened like this just before the big 1.5 update happened..i saw stores were selling the first one cheap to clear them out before they got new stock in with 1.5 included..

when i bought mine a few weeks ago the store told me the sale was part due to the ressesion and part due to native instruments are going to do a massive 1.8 update and there was a rumour it would include something else the guy said it would either be a maschine expansion pack bundked in it or something else, but either way he said theres been no talk about any new hardware to replace the maschine.

Or they are just being tighter with the production of each version number for the sake of running an efficient business?

I don't see a hardware upgrade for a point version making any sense.

1 possibility that WOULD make sense is if there is a version 2 with complimentary hardware coming out, and that ran alongside the 1.8 update, with the 1.8 being the last part of the 1 saga and really just to give the existing users something to smile about.

No mention of this through the On The Record sessions though. BUT, and this is a big but, mention was made during that of what the longer term is for Maschine, and that's quite important really. Although I don't think we're getting a V2 yet, the fact that future developments are being openly discussed means it's closer to the horizon than I'm guessing.

However it could go either way really, with one possibility being that the beta testing hasn't gone well, and this was initially scheduled to be finished round about the end of the summer sale. So the existing sale seems to be stalling for more testing time I would think.

I read in a GearSlutz thread post about Ren & Maschine that last year NI had a questionnaire on the forum asking users what they'd like from a keyboard based controller.

    Anyone know anything about this?

Perhaps this could be a clue to what is coming?

I doubt NI would do a final 1.8 version for the existing controller and launch a "Maschine 2" though with different software - that would alienate and annoy a LOT of users/fans.

Maybe we won't even see a 1.8 and it'll just launch as a 2.0 with new controller and updated software that still allows the use of the original unit but the newer unit allows for more hands on controls like keyboard, knobs, larger screens. Wouldn't rule out an internal soundcard either (after all, NI make their own anyway!).

One thing that IS for sure though, this is an exciting time for musicmakers now that there's competition in the market. When the Ren drops and NI make their move the game will definitely be ON!

Was just checking to see if NI had applied for any Patents recently to see if there were any clues ...

yeah maybe they could not get that time-stretch to work so they thinking of some way to break the news to the ts enthusiasts.

the hardware upgrade makes sense at this point to complete with the ren
    ---

this does not seem to be logical as they advertised 1.8 after the ren was announced and they have posted that 1.8 is currently in testing so dont see how u conclude that they may abandon 1.8 and move to 2.0

    True.
However, we're not shareholders on here so they don't have to disclose exactly what their plans of future releases are or have to stick solidly to promises made about updates or names.
If it's a new controller to replace the original maschine's then it makes sense to go with the 2.0 as the name for the software too, no?

The middle one looks like a multicore method I think, but that doesn't necessarily mean Maschine. The oldest one is probably a new Reaktor oscillator module, or some completely new application, and the newest is for Traktor.

All that said, no new patents would be required for a Maschine keyboard set-up I don't think.
    ---
.....but you see, NI don't need to compete with Numark here....Numark need to compete with NI. This could of course have a different angle though in that NI may want a quick and clean first round knock out, so that Numark don't bother trying to follow it up.

The other way of looking at it..... is that maybe beta testing has gone so well with a V2 controller that they have brought it forward.

Anything is possible with speculation. :D

bro akia been doing sampling drum machine since the 80's but i here ur point ni are already market leaders in the field but ni would be foolish to take akai lightly hence the revision of their release strategy

You praise the akai ren and like the ren so much why not just sell maschine. You just defend them and complain all the time about Maschine. I don't get it... Maschine doesn't have this or that. When they drop something new, you will buy it. Do you think Akai's interface competes witht he audio komplete 6? Have you tried out the S4. NI, makes quality stuff. I know it's taking a while, but I'm being patient and making music. While not blaming them for maschine not having this feature, for making up for the lack of talent some may have in making music consistently.

If you're going to grind the coffee get the beans to make the juice ffs.

I am sure we will all know when it's realeased as the eBay, graiglists and further bargains will begin...has history taught anyone anything?

    COMPLETELY agree with this.

There's a long thread on Gearslutz that's well worth going through if you've got the time. Later on in the thread some of the users who HAVE maschine and who have been selected as Ren testers have been comparing the two. As well as the obvious features the latter offers that have been on the Maschine users wishlist for years, there are a lot more too that have been implemented.

This is an excellent interview that asks some questions that puts some real sweat on the rep's brow, questions that a LOT of users have wanted answered, but he's definitely got the answers.

If NI don't step up their game more than just a 1.8 update they'd be daft!

not sure if it was a joke - i certainly didn't find it funny and gave the original poster a 2 day Infraction.

there is no way that NI would create an update that stopped working with the Hardware Controllers that have been in the resent sale.
