To me, it would very much depend on how much I use and how much I feel I need the tool in question. But most of all, it would depend what service I got for the subscription fee. If NI did it and continued the way they are now with Maschine (months and months between arguably lacklustre updates), I wouldn't even look at it. But if it meant regular, substantial (and I don't just mean "big" features, just worthy improvements/fixes), I'd give it more than just a look if the price seemed fair. But then that's it too, what is a fair price? I'd rather NI just to all the improvements and fixes I want for free and leave it at that. :p

plus, Sonar's monthly updates now are way cool. so much bang for the "subscription" buck

I had to laugh about the part where they offer you a $99 store credit in case you want to buy one of the plug ins that you're already getting for free with the rental / subscription package, "In case you love it so much you can keep it until you're old and grey and mixing inside a space ship."

They're shipping the iLok for free, but I'm out of USB ports. Unless I upgrade to a 8 port hub. Then there's the time you'd have to put into learning all that good stuff you just rented. Heard their products are excellent though...

you can get a free iLok and get usage of a bunch of very good plugins for 60 days then just pause the subscription. it's this pausing which I find interesting. best way of using it imo

I'm more concerned with Vintage Audio's Black Friday sale. If they significantly cut the price on a SSL Nucleus or Avid S3, then I may try one of those. I expect NI will have 50% off on Maschine expansions but it would be nice if they do the same for their Komplete instruments.

sell them now before the prices drop and you lose dough.. then they come out with a new hardware and your current controllers value has dropped by %30 for ever. Just speculation of course. ;)
