It's missing the black trim around the screens.

Those help out with the contrast, so that looking at the screens isn't as hard on your eyes. The white MK2 has some black trim around the screens, as do many other light-colored pro-audio devices.

If I were to go for a white studio the first thing I would do is get a custom window cling then use an xatco to fit it to the top of the maschine where the displays and knobs are. I do not like the look it has. I like the white at the very top and bottom and the silver on the lowr half but that shiny white clear area around the displays needs cover, to my eyes. You can do a lot with the different types of window cling, a lot of printers will print of whatever you want!

The knobs do come off. I tried that lastnight. It's a little easier to remove the knobs than on the MK2. I didn't check to see if my MK2 knobs would fit though. I'll try that tonight when I get home. I posted a couple of pics of mine on this thread....

Awesome! I wonder if NI plans on selling knobs for the Studio. Do you know if the plate comes off as well?

EDIT: Nevermind I read that thread. Too bad about the faceplates. I at least hope they sell knobs.

I tried to swap the knobs with the ones on my MK2. The small encoders fit fine. The big one was not as good of a fit. It's a little slimmer and taller on the Studio, so the knob sits too high. Here are some pics that I took. I ended up putting the original "big" knob back on though.

Here's to NI pulling a Novation or Mackie and adding touch-sensitive controls! I'm sure they'll find some way to make it useful. :)

Man, I just couldn't do it. I've been wanting the white Studio ever since I saw it but it just doesn't look right so I got the black.

I think MK2 looks the best in white, whereas Studio you just have to get in black.

    I'm going white.
    Sick of black gear.

Good thread btw. This is the important stuff we need to discuss here.

I think it depends on the setting. I have the white studio sitting on top of my Apogee Symphony I/0, with an aluminum and white apple keyboard in front of that. And my monitor is a 30 inch aluminum Cinema display... The surface of my desk is white enamel. It all works together and looks awesome.

Well... now that the Maschine Studio has been out for some time and I've seen it in Black and White a million times...

    It looks better in Black.

Did anybody else notice that St Joe and Flux started out with the white Maschine Studio... but now the both have black.

Like I said earlier in this thread... the mk2 looks best in white... but with the studio I had to go black.

I think because the M-Studio is so big... all that white is a little to much... but the black M-Studio just kinda fits in with everything else and still looks good.

At first I felt the same as many others, that the MK2 looked better in white and studio looked better in black.

But the. I watched YouTube videos of each and I changed my mind.

    White one on the way!

    I have a white MK2, but for a MK2-studio I prefer the black one...

Some more thoughts. I typed my first response on my iPhone from a Thai restaurant right when my cute kimono-clad server was giving me the bill, so I had to get going, ha!

Anyway, I already have a black MK I which I like, but I could never see the printing on the face of it in my dimmed home office/studio.

Plus, I noticed in my space, even though the desk surfaces are all white, the great number of black, grey, dark blue devices makes the room feel darker. Devices with lighter elements help to bring some overall balance and a cleaner, more modern look to my workspace. Would I avoid a device because it's only offered in black? No, of course not. But if I have a choice, well, why not?

But as I mentioned in my post above, the smart thing for me was to seek out various YouTube videos of BOTH options, then decide. I highly recommend that anybody sitting on the fence do this; you may be able to decide pretty fast then. :)

    Hello.

So I wanted to get back to all of you on this question. My white Maschine Studio arrived on Wednesday. I've been living with it now for a few days in my home studio. I'm happy, very happy, with the white.

The clear polished upper face and brushed aluminum lower face work very well together to give this controller a very clean look, almost like a new car, fine cookware, or an all-business medical instrument, but it's not cold or sterile looking to my eyes.

The white/brushed aluminum with printing on it is visible and legible when lit with a couple of cool white Mighty Bright LED lights clipped to my mixer stand. This controller really looks and feels professional.

Well done, NI. Keep up the good work and sometime in the next 50 years I just may forgive you for dumping Kore 2.
