    Hallo,

Just on the edge of upgrading to R6 and I'm pretty excited about Blocks. I've been thinking about the great potential here and all the cool Blocks that I'd like to see. Which in turn got me thinking about what is and isn't fair game. So, I'm sure we can all agree that uploading Blocks based on components of commercial ensembles to the UL would not be cool. How about components of ensembles from within the factory library? Some examples: creating a Block based on the OKI Computer wavetable, a Block based on one of the 'tones' from SineBeats.

I would presume that it would be fine, perhaps even encouraged, to create Blocks based on elements from the User Library? Straight away I'm thinking of the many, many possibilities in the Ampere collection. I also think it would be fun to create Blocks which take something like Laserbrew and create a much more simple and streamlined interface where only a few key controls are surfaced on the Block.

The final area is ensembles that are external to the User Library but are more freely available... in particular I'm thinking that Boscomac has a number of great effects that would be great to see in the Blocks format. I'll almost certainly try to create a Block of his Bouncing Ball delay but wouldn't want to upload to the UL if that was stepping on his toes. Perhaps it would be best to contact him but I thought it would be interesting to see people's opinions here too.

    Thanks,
    John

I would think that it would be fine uploading blocks based on factory stuff, since it's basically what you own when you purchase Reaktor... Just my 2c though.

That's why I hated all this relatively not so long started trend of selling the Reaktor ensembles. In early days all it was is you pay once for the software - everything else is free. Even more, I suspect that Ens market is what killed the amazing idea of User Library and all that ongoing flow of ideas and new stuff.

I wouldn't say that selling ensembles killed the user library. It's pretty much thriving regardless of that fact.

    agreed.

there might have been a slow down, but users have after been waiting for R6 for 10 years.

Now there might be an exciting free/commercial market where people can build Blocks of commercial modular hardware. I'd love to see Paia 4xxx/9xxx modules being "Blocked", or the crazy Eurorack modules from this guy: http://www.mutable-instruments.net/, etc!

Ok, I'm speaking solely for myself. I can just admit that I was not interested in the UL during about the last 10 years. I hope that the things could change for me since R6. I really miss the days of R4 when I could explore UL, pick up my favourite builders, follow them, downloading all of their Ensembles, top class builds, internally and externally. Tell me I'm wrong, maybe, but I feel that this days UL uploaders just can't compete with a commercial ensembles, so... whatever, it is separated - you upload something "don't judge me too hard" to the UL or you go sell it (in some way) if it is a decent level complex Ensembles. Sure there are a some exceptions here and there, I have all my respect to forum veterans, who was extremely kind helping me with my stuff and who are still here around. That is just what I feel about UL. Would be cool if I'm wrong. Should start some other thread maybe to find it out, what's going on here with UL. BTW what's about some long promises from NI, rumors about some new way of UL organization, voting, etc.? Am I missing something?

And back to the topic, actually if you think about it it is really impossible to draw a solid line, separating when your builds are really yours or "are you sure you did not steal this macro from *** ensemble?" That's so sad. Ok, I should stop.

And selling ensembles is not a recent trend either.
