    Hi there,

I'm a total novice in sampling software yet I've just purchased Kontakt because I need to use it via Pro-tools LE to generate realistic string orchestral sounds.

The introduction to the Kontakt manual suggests many excellent books available on "electronic music, synthesis, and sampling".

Can anyone suggest a few titles that are not too bogged-down in detail and that are aimed at hands-on musical examples and that are relevant to using Kontakt?

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

    Many thanks,

    Mic

    Mic,

i'm not sure that it's possible to come to terms with Kontakt without getting bogged down at least for a short time. if you don't already have a firm understanding of analog synthesis, that would be the place to start i think. most of kontakt's features stem from that. try "synthesizer basics" for analog synthesis. you can find cheap copies on amazon.com you should also be familiar with the concepts of digital audio (sampling rate, bit depth-ithink synthseizer basics touches on those) and understand how sampling differs from synthesis. if you're not really interested in getting in depth with Kontakt, you might consider Kompakt as it is probably easier to use.

    hwa,

Thanks so much for the info there.

Hmm - the more I thnk of it I should've gotten Kompakt instead - but I was persuaded otherwise just due to its being far more flexibilitypowerful which I'm sure it is.

Well you live and learn. I'm gonna make sure I take real good advantage of the after-sales support from where I bought it...

    Cheers,

    Mic

I am tentatively planning to work on some Kontakt tutorials later in the year...I know that doesn't help right now...but there's a LOT of power under the hood that I think one day you'll be thankful you have. :)
