    Ok,

I recently updated to a macbook pro intel core 2 duo & I'm not able to use my East West 290 instrument. I'm guessing there are no universal binary updates so do I -

    a) get Kontakt 2 - will I be able to load the samples? & is kontakt 2 binary/intel compatible...will it show up in Logic 7.2?

    or

    b) Get Play....what is play? I'm dubious

From what I've read, these are my options but if anyone knows otherwise, please feel free to correct me. Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Both of those are options.

You can go (a) and get Kontakt 2, which is a Universal Binary (will run on Intel Macs) and can load the patch.

You can go (b) and upgrade the PLAY once EastWest has released it. They have announced Quantum Leap Pianos although I'm not clear on whether your 290 is part of that or not. (Check their product pages to be sure.)

Ok, so PLAY hasn't been released yet?

All the same, I don't think my bosendorfer 290 is part of this upgrade. So, I think I'll go & get Kontakt 2. I'm used to the layout of the Kontakt/Kompakt samplers. I think I'll get the Quantum Leap Pianos package at a later date.

Thanks for the confirmation! All the best

I'll confirm that it does work to get Kontakt 2 and then load your patches into it. As a bonus you will be able to pick up some sample sets for ep, strings, etc and create some nice layer patches to use with Bosendorfer 290 in Kontakt.
