I was using my DX-27 to control a demo of Reaktor the other day and decided to plug a
male-to-male cable into the synth's breath control jack. To my surprise, I could send MIDI
information simply by squeezing the end of the jack with my fingers! Apparently what is
happening is that my fingers act as resistors and by squeezing harder, I reduce the
resistance. Very fun effect! Anyone else out there with a DX model, try this. I'm
attempting to build a foot pedal for modulation capabilities. Also, try building a Reaktor
ensemble with a songle oscillator as your sound source, MIDI controller 2 as the pitch
source, a constant for the amp and put some simple delay with a bit of feedback on the
output. Start squeezing the jack and you'd swear you're listening to the Forbidden
    Planet
    soundtrack. Sweet! :)

    cool tip....
i bought a dx7 II D for live gigs. i intented to achieve
    a breath controller.
    questions:
do the new ones (e.g. for FS1R, VL70m) fit and work with
    the old dx7 II?
Did You use a mono or a stereo jack an which size? 3,5mm?

I'm not sure about using the new ones with the synth :(

I used a stereo cable, and find it easier to control when I attach a 1/4 inch adapter to the end I control it with.
