    Bring Back Current Playlist.

Ive created a Current Playlist but this is not adequate for Requests and on the fly Selection.

Before i could sort my set out before the gig in Current Playlist and if during the night id get a request i could either:

just add the track to the list or (often) put it in a player, preview it, play it or think, ill play it later and load something else. The track is added to the Current Playlist regardless (then i dont forget the track).
Under PRO the track isnt add to anything.

Yes i can set a hot key to load to that particular playlist But surely Setting Hot Keys isnt the solution to everything these days. How many hot keys can a person have. Im running out of buttons. Id need a button to load into current playlist and a button load into player/current playlist.

I can no longer , search for a track, load into player, play it, and have it show in the current playlist. This is bad for a sudden change of mind. I dont want to have to load into the current playlist then load in to the play. Im doing stuff twice.

This is a major point for DJs that dont just play 10 songs in 1 hour and that dont have totally pre-ordered sets.

MASSIVE REQUEST TO BRING THE CURRENT PLAYLIST BACK
    MY BRAIN NEEDS IT.

Yeah this is one I'm thinking on to solve myself too. I'm on the fence about just having the current playlist, I'm trying to think of what its background functionality needs to be. On Friday night I did a big mashup about 2 hours 40 tracks and about 200 mashup samples. Took requests too and adding those to the active playlist was indeed a pain. I wonder if instead of bringing back current playlist if we had the notion of active playlist and then you could choose any playlist as the 'active' one with use as active playlist popup menu option and then a broswer command could be "add to active playlist" and add to "active playlist at end". I'm guessing you also want the system to auto add tracks to active when the track is loaded into a deck?

Yeah thats right. Im sure there is a workaround but nothing that will be as convenient as the old Current Playlist. Its the convenience that I love, its just there all the time easy to add to both as Next Track or End of Playlist, both of which i use 'constantly' during the night.

Take for instance my Monday gig, mixed up genres/radio/top40 big hitters, very demanding crowd. Im playing out of 8 different playlists, a Main playlist and then sub-playlists such as Warm up, Genre, My mashups/mixes.
I create a Current Playlist which is the main body of my night which includes all the obvious floor fillers of the moment, new tunes, ideas ive had during the day which ive added. The real beauty is i can shut the lappy down in the day and the list is preserved no saving nothing lost. Open up after lunch with that brainwave to play a long forgotten classic, preview it, add a few tunes from other playlists, close the laptop its all good.
Turn up at the venue its all there.

Im a pretty approachable DJ i have a good rap-our with my crowd i get 100s (and i mean 100s of requests). Current playlist makes adding requests VERY easy. Either as Next in Playlist OR at a point of my choosing OR straight into the player. All of which are logged automatically in the Current Playlist.

Its not out of laziness that id like this back its simply that ive got minimal time to be arranging tunes in playlists . All the adding during the gig needs to instantly do-able and easy viewable.

I realise that many DJs dont take requests and i do many gigs where my set is 100% programed BUT i make my living playing gigs where requests are vital.

Sorry about the in-depth, wanted to be constructive critism rather than just a rant. Im getting tired of hearing people simply ranting and demanding stuff.

Actually, I like the serato way of queuing requests much better: Yesterday I played alongside a serato guy, and he popped up a sort of 'split view'. Above his library there was a small view where he added tracks that popped into his mind, or where requested by the crowd. When you drag one of these tracks to a deck, that track gets erased from the queue.

I think this is an even quicker way to handle requests or brainwaver. The reason why I never used the 'current playlist' was that it was cluttered by the allready played tracks... And when you use that serato-idea, you could add a hotkey that shows/hides that small list.

Yeah it's called the prepare list, but I filed a request for a split browser view awhile back for this same reason. I just called it the requests list instead Which had the browser split horizontally instead of vertically.

I have a Current Playlist favourite setup and use a hotkey to place tracks in there when I'm preparing before hand.

The only other idea I had was to add the assignment to the load hotkeys as well so it adds the tracks everytime I load either deck.

The only problem with that is dealing with multiple entries.

Yeah Im looking at workarounds too BUT all would involve Hotkeys and various assignments depending on the action wanted. Nothing as easy and convenient as the old Current Playlist.
And im fast running out of usable buttons/keys. I suppose mapping the whole keyboard is inevitable.

Id love a split browser but id happily do without if i had the Current Playlist back.

Thanks for the replys PhilL/Quartz . Be great if amongst the million other requests for Tea Making functions and what-not that this got a look in.

Plus, if you record live gigs and want to be able to print your set list later, it's ridiculously easier to simply look at your Current list next day than it is to listen to the mix and figure out what the hell you were playing while you were winging it and doing a ton of other things.

For me, the Current list is part of my workflow. For podcasts I preview tracks on a larger saved playlist of unplayed tracks. I move the ones I want to play to the top and resave the playlist. Then I copy those tracks to "Current" and save that as its own playlist for the podcast. I'm not unwilling to change my process, but I am unwilling to forego it without something as good to replace it.

    +1

... i fear that some of the recognisable visuals have been removed. Simple things like Deck A (colour red) Deck B (colour blue) stripes in the playlist. Yeah you can see A or B but highly visable displays options are great for At A Glance viewing.

    If it aint broken...

Another good thing about the old T3 Current Playlist being active is when im at home 'messing about' trying new things with track combinations and finding tracks id forgotten about all this is automatically logged in the playlist, no need for saving playlists.

I know this is all saved in a History nml but it isnt shown in the browser tree.

As I already mentioned in the German Traktor Forum...

I think the concept of the Current Playlist was very inconsistent.
It wasn't really a History List and it wasn't really a list for preparation - or it was a bit of both.

So the idea of clearing this up by splitting it into two intuitive lists (Preparation and History) is not bad, I think. There are just some weaknesses that should be fixed:

    1. The Preparation List should get an icon similar to the one the Current Playlist in T3/TS owns. So all tracks that were added to the Preparation List are marked in every folder/list in Traktor.
    2. The option "Ignore cued Tracks in History" should come back as "Ignore cued Tracks for History and played state". So only tracks that were played for a certain duration will be added to the History.
    3. The History must be editable. So the user could add tracks that were played, but not automatically added to the list or remove tracks that were added mistakenly.
    4. There should be an option that automatically adds (or lets the user add) the actual History to the Playlist Tree Node in Traktor.

I think that would be a more intuitive and more consistent concept for Traktor than the Current Playlist ever was.

What exactly was Current Playlist inconsistent with?

A major problem with PRO is that without a Current Playlist and tracks loaded in a player BUT not played disappear . they are not added to the preparation playlist.
Many time i will search for a track, preview it on the Player but decide to play it later and load another track. The great thing about Current Playlist is the previewed track is added to the current playlist.
This is of major importance. To djs that play requests.

Current Playlist is not meant to be a History List as you already have a History nml created .

But do you want all tracks that you've loaded into a deck to be added to the preparation list? I don't think so.

    For Live situations.

YES thats exactly what i want. So do others. I do my prep in Current Playlist and re-order it to suit what i want to play.

Im talking here about LIVE situations when i may preview tracks and then put them yo one side to play later. i want them automatically added to the Current Playlist OR the Preparation Playlist so that is dont have to handle the track more times than necessary when time is critical.

And what is about tracks you preview, but don't want to play later? These will be added to the list, too.
So a simple drag'n'drop to the preparation helps you in a better way, I guess. Or a hotkey/MIDI-command "Add to Favorite". ;)
