I understand that nkx files are encrypted/compressed but is there any way to browse their contents ?

I've bought a library that came as 5000 samples in an nkx and they load but seem to have samples missing - any way to get a listing or a least a total number of .wav files within ?

    thanks

Nope, not possible, because of encryption.

If you have missing samples, I would check the size of the full library against what the manufacturer says it should be. If you're off by more than several MB, you're almost definitely missing NKX files.

If you name the Library and some of the missing samples (and thier instruments) then someone here can check.

But, better yet, contact the manufacturer, as David suggested.

    thanks for the replies.

I was able to browse the nkx using the file navigator in Kontakt - this showed me the individual wav files - and if renamed the nki and tried to load a patch it told me how many files were missing. So I can do it in a round-about way.

It would be good if you could select an nkx and "get properties" - such as number of samples - size of uncompressed files etc.

An example are the abbey road drums - where it claims 14gig of samples but the files themselves are less than 7gig. Obviously as it's NI you tend to trust them, but it's not always so obvious with 3rd party libraries

Abbey Road uses Kontakt's NCW lossless compression, so that shrinks the actual sample data to almost half size. That is also said in the specs...

    hi Evil,

yes I was aware of that and totally understand the lossless compression. The point I was making is that it's not so obvious on non-NI nkx. There is no way of telling if that 50gig library you just bought, which seems to compress down to a 1 gig file, is because it's just full of "fresh air" or is marketing hype.
