Browser Attribute Issue since 1.2 Update

Since the update to 1.2 I cannot see the standard attributes in the browser anymore (as shown the operation manual):
All I see is "Bankname", "Type", "SubType" and "Mode".
I used to see "Instrument", "Source", "Timbre", Articulation" and "Genre"

Thanks a lot for any suggestions/answers.

    Regards,
    Dirk

That's because of the new preset format. FM8 changed from Kore format to Maschine format and so did the browser. If you think the browser is less useful, tell NI, so do we :)

And remember to never ever 'Rebuild Database' for FM8, Massive, and Absynth. It removes ALL of your saved ratings and color attributes. I lost hours of preset organization time trying to figure out how to find ones I need when I need them.

Also when you save them to the user area?

Thanks a lot for the feedback - and yes you are right all browsers ( I have Maschine, Absynth, FM8) look the same (I haven't done much lately besides updating).

    Two questions:
    1) Where in this huge forum do you post your complaint. I want to join you guys.

    2) Is it just me that I am totally frustrated about the management of rating/favorites. In FM8 and Absynth I can only alter the rating if I save the sound as a new file in a different location, resulting in a double entry?
Both synth don't allow filtering by rating?

At least in Maschine I can create subtypes (like 1Start, 3, Start, 5Start) and assign the subtype to a sound. I haven't found a way of adding subtypes in both FM8 and Absynth?

    Thanks upfront for your answer.

    Regards,
    Dirk

There's a lot of complaining going on on the forums but it's best if real complaints are emailed. NI says the shift to Maschine-Komplete integration was because Maschine users requested it. I think they want to know no one is happy with the browsing :)

I always move all my presets to the user area so I won't have duplicates. And I don't know about making extra attributes in the synths, I do all these things in Kore so I have all sounds from all synths together.

    Thanks a lot nielsdolieslager,
As you can tell I still new to all this. Please allow me 1 more questions w/o going on your nerves.
    1) "move all my presets to user area": what are you actually doing? Moving files physically from "common files" library to a an area created by you? Could you please point me in the right direction (operation manual, etc). I don't have KORE I only have the free Player.

As fa as Maschine is concerned. I love it and I can see how NI tries to push it to be in the center of all other synths and sounds they are selling since it is turns more and more into a "semi" DAW. Just my POV

    Thanks a lot

Yes, rebuilding the database will also erase the ratings and color attributes from the 'user folder'. Having duplicates is no big deal for me as I use my own banks and save the presets that I want to use, leaving the original intact.

Sorting throughg and finding what I need when I need it in any of these 3 NI products has always been an issue with me, it should be much easier IMO.

Ah, that won't work with the Player, the Player can only load factory sounds. Sure, Maschine can be great for some people. I just wanted a program that can find and compare all similar sounds quickly and can even load them next to each other to compare. I've seen the browser of Maschine, it's a step backwards from Kore and you're complaining about it too :)

alot of good features have been taken away from the browser, just to make them compatible with maschine. don't get me wrong. i love maschine, but instead of upgrading maschine with a better browser, they're downgrading everything else instead

Unfortunately this seems to be the "logic". There seems to be little point in bothering with this upgrade for the 3 synths affected and sadly Kontakt has also suffered from this. NI need to reconsider their Maschine centric strategy. If Maschine has a poorer browser then it is that that should be fixed, not break everything else.

Sorry to hear that Ruari, yeah I learned the hard way, so much so I hate to say it but this and some other NI issues have put me in an NI spending 'freeze'.

It's sad to hear about so many users with all these problems.

Clearly NI has focused its attention on Maschine and DJ-related stuff - but they have neglected their old faithful customer base.

So it seems that Maschine users complained and NI jumped. What about all the complaints here on the FM8 forum? There are bugs that are years old that have not received attention.

Where's Keir - you were so helpful and active before?

I also have stopped spending money on NI products.

NI won't re-integrate the old(better) browser in multiple apps and extend machines browser. I mean, first they degrade everything, user lose their metadata, then they re-introduce features, users start to rebuild metadata, then they kill these again with new browsing functionality...

How often do users want to see their spare time work getting lost? Or their investments? Or their believe und trust in a company? How often?

Been learning MASSIVE and just wanted to add my 2 cents in case NI is listening that the downgrade in the browser section (apparently to make it more compatible with MASCHINE) is a really horrible idea. Was so confused reading the manual which describes the old browser and thought I was going crazy until I found this thread.

I feel you Porter321, Even though it's better integrated with maschine, i can't understand why you can't choose the browser mode. then the maschine users can have massive with the maschine browser and the rest of us can have the old browser. (I am in fact a maschine user, but i hite it's browser, it's so retarded)

yeah this is ridiculous...i have maschine and I much prefer to have it how it is in the manual....kind of false advertising cause one of its strengths was having the ability to drill down to very specific detail.

I posted what was quoted above in January 2012.

It's now July and there's no sign of any significant FM8 updates, despite assurances from NI that this was not a neglected product.

Sad, as FM8/FM7 is one of the best synths around.

It boggles the mind that they can have products with truly exceptional, nuanced sounds yet have no meaningful way to find them. They keep adding Komplete products but I can't imagine how folks are accessing the patches. I guess they're pulling out a pad and paper to keep some sense of categories.
As for useful ratings, colors, keywords, notes etc... Nyet. They dumbed down the ability to access one of the most Komplete and detailed libraries in production history to the point where you're better off using prayer to find what you want than Maschine's browser.

PS - I have Maschine but I won't let it do anything to the databases. Yes Machine has the knobs for parameter control. But for accessing nearly 10,000 sounds/effect etc. it's painfully insufficient.

    My rant is Komplete!
