    I just tried to import a bank of FM7 sounds into FM8 v 1.0.4 (R879) on Mac (in os10.5.7)

I went to the [File] menu and saw that [Import from FM7] was gone.
The menu item now says [Import from FM8]
    ? What ? That doesn't make sense....

Anyway, I tried to use it and got a message that said [The directory could not be created]

    Thanks Apple for Time Machine....
I got FM8 v 1.0.3 back from the past, opened it up and the import worked first time.

    Now the funny thing:
While writing this post, I closed v1.0.3 and opened v1.0.4 again to check the menu, tried it again, and Import now worked!

Hope this odd set of events makes sense, or at least helps someone else if they have a problem. NI should at least note that the menu is wrong: [Import from FM8] should read [Import from FM7]

    Regards - Colin

Me too, I was confused about Import from FM8, but when I tried to import the bank that Xenos left on the other thread, it worked fine...

I'm also having this issue. Here's what's going on:

    - Says 'Import from FM8'. Just a typo really, I can deal with that.
    - Whenever I try to import a bank of sounds it gives me a 'couldn't create directory' dialog and then gives up. Doesn't crash the synth all, tho.
    - Importing a single patch does work, however. It doesn't seem to save it in FM8 format anywhere, I assume that it's supposed to?

    - OSX 10.5.7
    - Logic 8.0.2
    - FM8 1.0.4, purchased from a $400 Komplete Box last month.
    - No available updates through Service Center as far as I can tell.

@ Musos - I'm guessing that running the 1.0.3 importer created the directory that 1.0.4 couldn't, and that 1.0.4 has no other problems after the directory creation issue. Do you think you could pinpoint what the new directory that was created is? I'd like to get mine working as well, but I'm new here and don't have any older version to fall back on :p

    @ spacecowgoesmoo:

    Sorry for the late response...

    Converted presets live here:
    Yourdrive/Users/yourname/Documents/Native Instruments/Shared Content/Sounds/FM8

In addition, you can make sub-folders to sort your sounds....

OK, I already have the '/Documents/Native Instruments/Shared Content/Sounds/FM8' folder. Inside this folder there is a /ConvertedSysEx folder with my working imported SysEx files.

So I think that there must be some kind of /ConvertedFM7 subfolder that FM8 1.0.4 can't create. Do you know what it's exact name is?

Just tried making a folder named /Converted, no luck. Gave me the same 'Couldn't create directory' error. I guess I'll have to wait for an update then... :(

I did have a folder called Converted, and it didn't work either. But, as I said in my first post above:
While writing this post, I closed v1.0.3 and opened v1.0.4 again to check the menu, tried it again, and Import now worked!
    It works now.....

I'm having the same problem: "Import FM8" instead of FM7 in the file menu and I get "Couldn't create directory" when trying to import( assuming it's a typo thing).I created a "Converted" folder at the right place which was missing but no success....As I didn't keep version 1.03, does somebody know how to get it on the NI site or somewhere.
Anyway I can't believe NI didn't already solve this simple bug.
    Thanks

Finally I found the 1.0.3 version in the download area (didn't even think they would keep old versions there...) and I could import the FM7 bank and then updating again to 1.04 I can use them but it didn't change the 1.04 import behaviour.
    Please NI release an updade......

this is beyond a "bug" - this is just silly!

I mean really, "Import from FM8" - nobody caught that before going public?

And it's been four months since 1.0.4 was released - you would think they would be able to whip up a quick bug fix and release it by now.

Well, as much as I like most of NI products,I guess probably 90% of the beta people is us, customers; each major upgrade or new product is full of bugs and they are more than slow to bring a fix. That's why I see more and more people giving up on NI.Support cost money.
That said I could not stop using some of their products right now. They should look at how Spectrasonics for example (OK it's a very very good example) handles this.

I have been consistently disappointed with NI's "service". They release products which are problematic but we, the users, have paid for them. We then wait months if not years for a fix, and the fix turns out to be the next release which we have to pay for again!

It happened with FM7 - there were many complaints which were never addressed. You just have to look through these forums to find them.....

Now we have paid for the "bugfix" which is called FM8, and there are also many problems. Next we will be told that we can't buy FM9 (the next bugfix release) because they are only selling Komplete.

I agree with [watercolours] about Spectrasonics. Now there's a company which produces superb products and listens to its customers. Eric Persing (the owner) even replies directly to customers on various forums.

It's a real shame that NI do not value this kind of contact and do not have the same respect for their customers.

Well well... this does not sound too encouraging. I have the same problem with importing FM7 banks and I too wondered what this "Import from FM8" with the subsequent directory error message is all about.

    NI read this?

The other day, I wrote to NI about this via the support mail system. Today they replied:

Problem solved, at least for now. After all that's been written (ranted) here I did not really expect much of a reaction but now I am positively surprised.

Sure it works that way but...it's incredible that NI didn't fix this since soooo long.

That's the whole point of these rants here. Version 1.04 came out mid-2009. The previous version was around for years.

I believe many users are not that impressed....

Yeah, I'm not impressed with their solution to this either. Downgrading to 1.0.3 is a hassle which I shouldn't have to put up with, considering the fact that this is a pro-level piece of software and that I paid good money for it.

To be honest, with this issue and the recent discontinuation of the Pro-53, B4, etc, I don't think I'll be buying any more synths from NI unless there's another insane sale like Komplete 5 had. Their sounds are great, but this kind of unreliability is just not worth it.
