    Feelin' better now, here goes...

So since I've upgraded to Traktor 2.5 I have had numerous issues with the software. The first time I posted I had only had a couple of days times to mess around with it, and since then I have kept a list on my phone of probably bugs to report to you guys on here. Some of the reasons in the list have only happened once or twice, some occur randomly (it seems) and some occur all the time.

Forgive me if some of the things I post are user-related instead of software issues. If they are, please tell me what I'm doing wrong so I can learn/fix the problems. There have been so many little things going on with my Traktor that it has become hard to tell, especially when things tend to change from day to day.

***For starters I am having a huge issue with Traktor selecting master decks while using my remix sets/the F1 controller. I run A&B as normal decks and C&D as remix decks. When playing tracks from Deck A&B, either of which is set as my master, it will deselect one of them as the master and select my remix deck as the new master, changing my tempo on decks A&B. This is especially annoying when switching to new songs. I wish there was a way to select that only decks A&B be set as the master. It makes it very hard to juggle between the two during sets and virtually useless live***

And here are the other problems I have been having:

    Key:
    * = problems seem to occur randomly and usually restarting Traktor helps fix them
** = problems occur on a more consistent basis and most of the time restarting Traktor does not seem to help
*** = occurs all the time, cannot seem to find a solution

    - with latency turned down I have numerous pops, spikes, and distortions***
    - traktor does not seem to recognize the BPM of any of my tracks until it loads into a deck and takes about 15-20 seconds to analyze itself. Even though I have let Traktor reanalyze my library. Almost all tracks say 0.00BPM. Even after I load a song and it detects the BPM on the deck it does not store it in the library***
    - many BPM's of my songs seem to be off. It analyzes many tracks as being either 85BPM and even more as being 140BPM. I have checked out some of these songs and the BPM seems to be close to this (such as 95 or 145) but Traktor does not read them right***
    - random crashes and unexpected shutdowns*
    - when headphone cue buttons are selected, it makes the master volume for that track louder**
    - cue volume seems to act as master control**
    - cue mix seems to affect my master volume as well**
    - led meters seem to be very random and not independent of each other (right and left act exactly the same regardless if I have 2 tracks playing or 1)***
    - cannot seem to get led meters to spike (or go red) no mater how much gain I add, even when it begins distorting**
    - mic does not work when engaged (plugged mic into different controller and it worked fine!)**
    - cross faders do not work (usually associated when my cue mix is affecting master volume)*
    - significant increase in the time it takes Traktor to analyze a song when loading into a deck***
    - tracks do not sync properly with master clock or with each other. (I will play a track with the master clock and tick on, about half way or so through the song you will begin to notice that the track is out of sync with the tick. It is usually about 1/2 beat, but sometimes can be more**

Any fixes or solutions to these would be great. Like I said some only occur randomly and its hard to tell if they are user-related or software. Also, I believe some of the things I listed to overlap with each other

My main concern is the remix decks setting themselves to master. I have watched all the tutorial videos on the NI website and it did not seem to show a solution to my problem as one member suggested to watch them and you would figure it out (although it was fairly late at night and I was extremely tired when I watched them).

not sure what alarmed the spam filter, but i had to approve 2 of your postings, this being one of them. we have to cope a lot with spam on the forum, sometimes it fishes the false person. it happens automatically, but we mods can then sort it out. sorry for that.

all the decks are FULL decks. so in auto-mode, every deck can become master, regardless if it's in timecode, internal or remix deck mode. so it's possible that the auto-function determines the remix deck as the most appropriate candidate for the master. to prevent the remix deck from becoming the master you either have to stop the remix deck (stop, not mute! a stopped deck cannot be master) or, and personally i find that more comfortable, use the master clock as master.

check the tuning tips in the knowledge base to optimize your system. that should take some load from your system and make things better on the one hand - and on the other, NI is working on making the key lock perform better in the next update.

make sure you're working from below the COLLECTION node. not below the EXPLORER node.

make sure you choose an analyzation range that comes closest to the estimated values. i.e., it's the easiest to analyzse e.g. all house tracks at once with a bpm range that fits, then the hiphop tracks that for sure are mostly in another bpm range. the smaller the range the more exact your results will be.

    => support!

sounds like your in external mixing mode although you have an internal mixer or the other way round.
attach screenshots of your preferences and also make some notes about your computer and setup.

    ? dont understand ?
what LEDs? master? channel? on the controller/mixer?

i'd suspect another routing issue here.

sure. it's quite a ressource consuming task. that's normal.

without beatgrids none of your tracks will sync forever. not even the properly detected.

so far, i see only user related issues in this posting :)

If you are using an S4 this is a known bug which will be fixed in the next update.

Horrible scratch response with CDJ 850 MIDI

Please forgive me if this is a repost and will someone point me towards the fix if there is one?

Scratching with MIDI in Traktor 2.5 with the CDJ 850 is far from accurate.

Thanks for the awesome response freshfluke. I have been working on Traktor the last couple of days, and indeed many of my problems have been on my part. I felt the need to come back and explain some of what I wrote to hopefully better help anyone that is experiencing some of the same stuff I have been through

Most of my problems have been routed to not knowing the software well enough and not having a good enough understanding has been going on. While I'm still far for being a well-knowledged or experienced Traktor user, I have learned quite a bit over the last few days and would love to report to yall that I no longer am having any real bugs, just a few things that aren't quite perfect to my liking (but hey! nothings perfect).

Perfectly ok, just glad is showed back up. as you can see I typed a lot and it took a while to post, so it was just frustrating. Still new to the forum. If would have known that I wouldn't have posted above in frustration. Please feel free to delete those posts to unspam this thread

I have been using the master clock more and more with better success, but it would be great to have some sort of option or something in the new update to avoid this. After messing around with my F1/Traktor more I have become more aware of what happens and as a result, it has been happening much less

Can't wait for the update! I definitely watched some tutorials and read some tips threads, and that what was able to clear up a lot of my "problems"

This is something fairly new to me, I will definitely look into it more. I don't know if this is coincindence or what, but since I have been using the master clock, it seems many of my tracks I have played since then have been showing their BPM's in the traktor library as well as the beat grids seeming to become better than they were. Does that make any sense, hah?

Will definitely give this a try and see if it helps! I know right now I have the maximum BPM range checked in settings (80-240 i believe is the exact option) so that might have a lot to do with my troubles getting my BPM's to load correctly.

First, I actually found out that there's a short in the mic chord that doesnt act up all the time. Noticed this the other day when I was moving wires and hit it and heard it pop. Earlier when I tested the mic in a different device it did not short, and worked. But it is definitely the mic!
And my headphone controls/cue buttons do not seem to be acting up anymore. I honestly do not know what exactly fixed this problem, but they don't do it anymore!

I was referring the the master LED's on the S2 controller. They were both displaying the exact same thing for a while, regardless if I had two different tracks playing and regardless of where my channel vol or crossfader were at on the controller.

Is it safe to say that I believe some of my tracks are properly beatgridded (word?), while others are not. Next time I notice this I will try and take a screenshot to post. I have beatgrid selected in my settings right now.

I would agree for the most part! Thanks again! Hopefully this will help someone else in the future if they ever experience these issues.
    ---
for me, adjusting the latency in the settings helped to get rid of this. Is your load meter at the top showing red? If so try increasing the latency and see if it brings the load marker down some. If so, from there I would slowly decrease latency until you find a good area. For me and my setup it is currently around 17m/s or about 700.

Ideally you want this to be less, but that's about all my system can handle...

    you're welcome, mate.

thx for coming back - positive feedback is rarely posted in forums (a desease, all tech forums suffer from ^^)

no problem. i'd have been frustrated as well! ^^
    will remove the respective postings.

i'm not sure if i should suggest a "2 deck master switch" option to NI or not, since i'm not a fan of packing as much options as possible into the software and on the other hand i do believe, that it's not a problem, once you understood what is going on, as your next sentence also pointed out ("After messing around with my F1/Traktor more I have become more aware of what happens and as a result, it has been happening much less")

not at all, my friend! ^^
the thing is... traktors collection is the database it uses. only tracks in the database = collection can be searched. also you run into trouble writing the tags into the tracks when not using the collection etc pp.
so, do everything below the collection (analyzing, beatgridding, ...) and you're fine.

    deffo!
i made a quick and dirty beatgrid tutorial a while ago - it's made for an older version of traktor and was especially directed at the hiphop/broken beats ppl, but the general basics are valid for everybody and the current version. probably some buttons/options changed slightly.

    d'oh!

    lol...

ah ok... not sure what it is supposed to show.

    ok.

oh... and here's the link to the said tutorial:

ahhh, yes! that video was perfect!

I vaguely remember watching another tutorial video that went into that briefly, but that video made things loud and clear.

definitely safe to say some of my tracks are beat gridded properly now, while others are not.

    thanks again!

Does anyone know if the quiet volume levels (on gain) for the S4 while playing standard vinyl (not timecode) has improved (on live input mode). Or if they have added a way to increase the db levels via settings in the software setup.

    Thanks

Can someone please confirm if they also have this bug, it seems like such a simple thing but it absolutely will ruin your mix if you aren't watching your phase meters.

Just to clarify: When the very specific procedure is preformed as instructed in the post you've copied, the phase of the still playing track and the master clock do get misaligned. However, it doesn't shift the phase of the playing deck. It does so of the master clock. So, for instance, if you have three decks playing in sync, they will all stay in sync together after stopping the master deck, and there will be no unexpected audio-jump either.

Thus, if you really "aren't watching your phase meters" and only beat matching according to the sound, there is little to worry.

The real problem is when you in fact do watch the phase meter, and prefer all decks' meters to be at dead center at all times. If you attempt to fix the phase-shift by nudging all the playing decks you will probably find this issue quite annoying, and if you do so by pushing sync, the tracks will of course jump (slightly) and some of the tracks may sound out of sync until you get all the sync buttons pushed (and released if you prefer).

What you want to do here is push the Master button on any of the playing decks instead. This will re-align the master clock's phase to the playing decks, and effectively fix the phase shift of all the playing decks at once, without a jump in the sound.

I think this behavior deserves the attention of the programmers and will probably be fixed when they get around to it, but if you are careful not to push the sync button when you shouldn't (when a playing-out-loud deck's phase is not at center, you should never push the sync button on that deck), there is really no trouble.

Freshfluke, after watching your video today I spent some time working on some of my tracks making sure they were properly beatgridded. I definitely had some success using your method, but I also found that by pressing the auto button towards the right on the grid section it had alot of success properly gridding the tracks.

I don't know if this applies to older versions of Traktor, as I am using 2.5. But for anyone having any trouble with beat grids. I would suggest watching the video posted above FIRST and then working with the auto button.

***also after starting traktor today all of my songs had a funny reverberating bass and popping sounds coming from them. Problems were gone after restarting Traktor. Just another example of the "random" problems I seem to have. Load and main level were both fine during the period I was experiencing this.****

the master LED's show the "Stereo" output levels...that means what is going to your left & right speakers... unless there is some drastic imbalance in the stereo spread of the music you are playing they will show more or less the same thing...

it has nothing to do with which channel is playing or where your cross fader is...

so if I have a song loaded and playing in deck A, but nothing loaded in deck B, both of my led's on my S2 should be showing the same exact thing?

I was under the impression that the left (or deck A) led was relative only to what what happening in deck A and vice versa with the left (or deck B)?

Edit: under Kontrol S2 in my settings, what would be best to set my LED meters to? Master or PGM?
