    Hello,

I not only dj with my music collection, I listen to it regularly and occasionally share it with friends.

I arrange my music in folders according to the genre and how good I think the song is.

For example I could have a main folder and set of subfolders that contain house songs organised like this ... House -> Modern -> Electro -> Best.

Of course I could create a playlist folder in traktor called house and then a playlist inside that called "Modern Electro Best" and then drag and drop the individual songs into the playlist.

The problem is that I regularly add new songs to the contents of those folders.

My question is - how can I get the playlists in traktor to auto-update themselves and reflect the newly added content which I have placed into the relevant folder?

Of course I can get traktor to import the "music" directory at startup but this facility will import a main folder and all subfolders but will then lump all the songs together in the browser.

Of course I can identify the songs originating folder by checking the location of the song in the browser but this will not allow me to organise all the songs coming from a specific folder into BPM order (for example) like I can do once the songs are in a playlist.

I don’t think it is uncommon for people to organise their music in folders and having to constantly recreate the playlist in traktor every time I add songs to a folder is not something I think I should have to keep doing.

Can someone please tell me if Traktor can actually do this or not?

(Can’t find the answer to this specific question anywhere else)

    Thanks.

How does everyone else do it?

People keep on creating new playlists each time they add new songs??

    Surely not.

Traktor and NI are meant to be industry standard, market leaders.

Can someone from NI comment here and confirm what my options are please?

you can use traispotter to make dynamic playlists . Traktor currently does have any functionality that makes playlists useful at all .

Thanks for the tip mastermc, Trainspotter is not something I had come accross previously - I will test it shortly and inform back on its suitability for resolving this problem.

I dont know if other software will do it, Im only familiar with Traktor at the moment - perhaps others with more experience could comment?

In terms of the amount of work neccesary in order to include this function I cannot imagine it to be much since music folder import and playlist creation functionality already exist and it would just need a litte extra code to get it to auto update playlists based on specific folders.

Again - feedback from an NI representative on this would be appreciated.

Makes total sense. I'm guessing part of it is because right now everything has to be based on the collection as opposed to any folder structure you have. Not saying that's right/good....just my guess.

you can "abuse" the few tags that are auto-updated below the collection node: ok, you dont want to mess with artist, but the genre tag fills itself and maybe you dont really need release & label for its intended purpose - then you can "abuse" these tags for your individual self-updating playlists.
