    Hello Everyone,

I'm building a computer for onstage use, it will be utilizing a Pentium proc with a premium asus mobo. I've heard that Reaktor has issues with PC dual core. Is this true? My mobo is advanced enough that what processor I install isn't an issue. I was thinking of going with a pentium 4 3.6 ghz proc with hyperthreading. I've heard that Reaktor has probs with HT, but it obviously can be turned off. Would I be better with a pentium 4 or a pentium D? I need maximum stability, as this is going to be used in live performances.....

    Thanks in Advance,
    Zee

Then may I suggest not getting an Intel product? If you're using Reaktor in a sequencer environment, then dual core AMD64 all the way, and if you're using standalone, then single core AMD64(but not socket AM2 for either).

    My 2 cents

And if you're set on Intel the new processors are still supposed to be out in July I believe...

Those Intel Conroe processors look **** hot, but their still dual cores, and knowing intel, and the fact that they will be "Extreme Edition" processors, they'll probably cost no less than $1000 for the chip and $200 for the mobo.

One problem with that is that the mobo is already purchased, and it's a major expense,(260 dollars), so only intel is going to be happening with me. I suppose the question that I was asking is, does Reaktor still have hyperthreading and dual core probs? I was reading some time ago that it does, at least with PC's... a Conroe would be great, but I'd sure like to know that intel dual core isn't a prob before spending THAT kind of money... actually, I can't afford a Conroe, I'm betting their entry to be about 1500 dollars. I'm hoping to capitalize on the price drop for intels....

Whoa, where are people getting info that you need an extreme edition Conroe!?? According to *preliminary* benchmarks, the high-end non-extreme edition Conroe (target cost ~$560) matches or exceeds AMD's FX-62 in nearly all performance tests. BTW, the FX-62 is a $1000 processor.

Thankyou very much! Will Reaktor have a prob with the Dual core however? One of the probs that I'm seeing based on previous threads. is that Reaktor is written for only one core. True, there's an update for mac, but not one for windows, Any dual core processor running Reaktor will probably take a major performance hit from a high speed single core processor. Of course Native Instruments could update their PC version, but I have a feeling that they won't. That's why I considered the pentium 4 3.6 gig processor.

I have no idea, I do not currently have a dual-core system, but I'm moving that way in the very near future. I've heard complaints about HyperThreading (don't have that either) and NI products not playing nicely together.

The chipsets for Conroe are said to be the same 965 and 975 chipsets that Intel has been producing for the past 6 months. It is not yet clear which motherboards currently available (if any) will support Conroe or not. It may be worth waiting. In addition, Intel is planning some massive pricecuts on the older dual core processors when Conroe comes out.

As I said, I already purchased the mobo, but it's top line, an asus p5wd2-e with a 975 chipset, so I would find it hard to imagine that it wouldn't support conroe. If it doesn't, I shall cry..... as I said above, it said me back $260. Basically, I'm having to put this system together piecemeal.

I've heard that all that SHOULD be needed is a firmware update, but nothing is official yet. You should know by the end of July.

Conroe's not an option, my mobo won't support it. 260 dollars.... BURNED! Oh well, I'll just have to try to sell it. Might as well go AMD given the amount of money lost. I find it amusing that their most expensive mobo won't support conroe, but theiir cheaper ones will. Yikes......The reason that it will not support conroe is that the p5wd2-e does not support vrm-11. No chance of it working. So with Conroe out of the picture, any advice on an intel proc? On second thought, I'd like to use this mobo.... I just realized that I purchased a mobo for a huge amount of money that will never be able to be upgraded. Sweet, what a bad day........

Never mind, I figure since I have a brand new mobo that can never be upgraded, and getting a pentium extreme edition 955 which has half the benchmarks of an athlon 65 x2, with the pentium costing me a thousand dollars while the athlon will cost me 560, it's more cost effective to ditch my 250 dollar motherbord, and start from scratch. Ouch. And I only purchased that mobo one month ago.
