FYI CYA = Covering Your Arse. (Just in case you don't know...)

In the big wide world of PC's Backup options abound and my Fav of all time is Ghost 2003. instead of just backing up data in a file system you backup the entire container of the filesystem (partition or an entire disk drive. When you restore, you are doing a point in time restore returning ALL settings to the original state something most backups almost do but in my experience not quite.

So the question is this. In the MAC world what is the direct the direct analog to ghost? Is there one? Ideally I want to set up my system configuration for OSX on my McCook Pro (its not here yet) that has all the bits I need and be able to backup the entire system partition, then using Ghost 2003 to backup the entire WinXP partition.

    Any Ideas on this?

    Phil

look for Carbon Copy. not sure if it's universal yet. I use it to clone my laptop hardrive to my old g3 40 gig iPod. if my laptop drive goes dead I can boot up from my iPod and run Traktor. here is a link.

PS. where did you order your macbook pro from the apple store in afganistan? Are they sending it by ground?:)

Another alternative is LaCie's SilverKeeper. I have used this free software to make bootable backups.

It also mentioned you can back up to CD or DVD but I have not tried. I don't know if it can span the backup across multiple media.

Carbon Copy Clone is a really good app. I have a CCC image of my Traktor partition saved on my External drive. If my machine goes belly up on tour I just reformat the drive and clone the coy back and I'm up and running in no time.

Also a good idea to Clone the drive before runing any updates on a solid system....

And while we are on the subject on Mac utilities... Phil, get a copy of Cocktail. Great app for keeping your system in check...

I too agree that Carbon Copy Cloner 2.3 is a great lil Mac-based app. I used it last month to clone an old HD onto a new HD for a business client of mine. They haven't complained of any problems yet.

It's not a Universal app and I cloned the drive under OS X Panther. Haven't tried it under Tiger.
