People ask about 'standalone' Maschines a lot.
Was thinking a Maschine controller with an iDevice dock or just a suitable interface would be nice and not far off a self contained unit.
Suppose the software would have to be stripped down a bit...

Well I actually began to develop that on an iPhone 3GS and I got elementar functions like metronome, recording, volume, patterns, (...) working very fine but then I realized that I can't publish that due copyright and trademark issues.

So unless someone buys that patent of Maschine, only NI would be allowed to do that.

Why would NI even think about making a device that is dependent on Apple?

Lots of products that failed because Apple made changes that made the product obsolete, some even before they were available for purchase.

They wouldn't be the first would they?
They already depend on apple by supporting OSX.
Plenty of iOS devices out there, keyboards, docks etc.
a hardware bridge like the midi devices already out could do the job.
If other highly portable devices (ie android) supported low latency audio they would be an option too but it's not the case right now.

I suppose the current truly portable solution would be maschine and a tablet running windows 8.

Lots of docks went to clearance when they changed the port on the iOS devices.

Being OS doesn't govern things the same as being hardware dependent.

NI would never give that type of control to Apple.

Yeah it would be an extra risk.
Just saw than apple are legally required to sell micro USB adapters in th EU though.
So a non proprietary interface is out there...
Stil think a hardware controllable handheld device would be awesome too, apple or not.
Would be anathema to something like the MPC500.

Lots of things probably could happen in the world of technology if Apple didn't have such heavy handed control over things that interact with them.

Look what happen to Akai, by the time that got the Fly to market Apple had created a new iPad.
So the Fly doesn't work with the original iPad or the Retina only the iPad 2 and iPad 3.

That's got to hurt their business prospects.
