Sorry if this has been addressed before...

Can I sell just my MK1 and not the software it came with? Would the purchaser be able to buy just the software?

    Thanks!

The software is only sold with the controller.

Although minim is correct, you can do whatever the hell you want with your controller. I'd advise making it very clear that it does not come with the software and that the software cannot be bought separately though.

You may find someone who just wants an extra controller. I have a Maschine MK2 and I recently found someone trying to ditch their Mikro MK2 controller at a decent price so I picked it up. As Mr36 stated, just make sure the buyer knows what they are getting.

I bought maschine MK1 secondhand (the controller and the software) - it uses too much CPU, can I sell it on again? Cheers.

I see controllers only on eBay all the time. Lots of bidding activity, so I guess there's a market for them. The items I've seen are very clear that it's just the controllers & no software.

Maybe they just want a general midi controller. In midi mode, it's got lots of controls that can be mapped to control just about anything. If they could get a hold of the template software, I can see using it to control your DAW, or even a synth module.

Yes, you are no different, just exchange the license as you did when you purchased the unit

Or maybe they had a maschine controller that died so need another.

I could be wrong on this but I believe any discounted upgrades you have through the device will become invalid if you attempt to resell the item. So for example I purchased Komplete 8 Crossgrade secondhand and then later updated to Komplete 9 via a discount because my Mk I Maschine qualified for it. The discount was listed as Crossgrade. Now I don't need the Mk I anymore but if I sell it and release the serial # back to NI then my Komplete 9 will be invalid. That's how I read the fine print unless I'm interpreting it wrong.

Yes, licences exist as crossgrades etc. I couldn't sell my komplete 9 upgrade without selling my komplete 9 etc.

But what about selling the hardware? That's what is confusing to me. From what I understand, I can't sell my Maschine Mk I because it was used as a qualifying item for the Komplete update.

Thanks for the info peeps! I see that the controller might work for someone who wants to upgrade from a mikro or who has had an issue with their controller.

    cheers all!

But did you register the hardware? If not it doesn't make a difference (with service centre) what happens to it. AFAIK the hardware doesn't get registered.

I just got confirmation from NI that I can't sell my Mk I without losing Komplete 9. I guess I'll just use it as a fancy paperweight.

They've said you can't sell the hardware alone? Was the crossgrade to Komplete 9 based on the hardware serial and not the software serial then? Odd. I understood that upgrades and crossgrades are tied to software licenses and not hardware. Especially as you are not licensing the hardware - you've bought it, it's yours - whereas you do not technically own the software (only rights to use it). Therefore, only transferring the Maschine software would affect the Komplete crossgrade. How would they even know that you no longer possessed the controller anyway?

Exactly. That's what I was trying to say.

They would know if I was trying to sell it the appropriate way by releasing my license serial #. Afterall, who would buy a used Maschine without the serial #? I have to admit the Mk I looks pretty spiffy next to my M Studio and I finally have something to hold down those flimsly pizza boxes

This is exactly the point that this thread and others are talking about though... Selling just the hardware. The Mk1 in your case. This has nothing to do with deregistering your license serial number, which can stay in your account as long after selling the hardware as you wish.

Plenty of people want to buy just the hardware (or just the software sometimes) for replacements or additions (as second Maschine controller or just a good generic MIDI controller). These people would buy the hardware alone without the software serial number, which is the thing that is tied to your crossgrades/upgrades.

IF YOU SELL YOUR CONTROLLER, NI WILL NOT KNOW OR CARE! :p
