    Hi everyone,

sorry if this is a stupid question, but I could not find a definitive answer.

I am using Ableton 10 and I am relatively new to the world of DAWs. I really love the NI Session Horns, but I am not sure if I can use them in Ableton Live 10. I guess I need some kind of VST to control the Session Horns from Ableton, but I am not sure if that works.

Can I use the Session Horns from Ableton 10? I also have the free version of the Kontakt Player installed.

If yes: How can I use the session horns from Ableton?

Can I also use the cool Kontakt controls?

    Thanks

    Jens

yes you can do all that, just open komlete kontrol as vst inside of ableton (i guess yo mean that) komplete kontrol session horns.jpg

then just click on the triangle and browse to the instrument you want, then a list of presets belonging to that instrument appears and you can load it
or you do it from the hardware. Here is how to record from kk to ableton

Although you could use Komplete Kontrol I'd recommend against it and instead grab the Kontakt player here. Freely available and it will provide access to all Kontakt based instruments (such as Session Horns).

In fact... I'd go even further and suggest you pick up Komplete Start. Fully free of charge and it contains all the main players you might need: Kontakt, Reaktor and Guitar Rig. If you have this installed you no longer need to worry about anything because every instrument you buy will become part of this Komplete setup.

    Thanks for your answers!

I installed Komplete Start and when I load the Native Instruments VST folder into Ableton I can now select Kontak or Komplete Control as Plugins that I can assign to Midi Tracks.

However, I can only select the Komplete Player for a Midi Track which means that every time I change the Instrument in Komplete, the Midi Track Instrument will change.

Can I somehow select a single Instrument in the Ableton Plugin List, which stays in this midi Track?

Before I buy the session horns from Native Instruments I would like to make sure, that I can really use them in Ableton.

    Thanks for the brilliant help

    Jens

To have a different instrument on each midi track, just load another instance of KK on a separate midi track and the load an instrument into it. You are not limited to one instance of KK (or Kontakt for that matter) you can have as many loaded as your system can handle. And if KK and or Kontakt work within Ableton, then you can definitely use Session Horns as it is a Kontakt Library...

    Thanks again everyone.

I bought session horns 2 days ago and I love it so much that I now upgraded to the pro version using the current 50% discount.

I used to play guitar in a big band, so I am really into horn sections. Playing the session horns with my midi keyboard puts me into command of an awesome horn section that has to obey my goofy ideas. Simple chords with 9th and 6th notes just sound incredible when played by this horn section!
