Is Maschine 2 a standalone DAW ....? I ask all this question to see what ideas are flowing. Its crazy ,i have Ableton Live 9 Suite & Logic Pro 9 and Izotope Ozone 6 advanced for mastering. Ever since i got KK S49 and Maschine Studio with maschine 2 sw i havent touched ableton, logic or any other daw sw i used to have. Do i really need ableton? I can pre master everything on maschine studio and final master thru izotope so it makes me wonder.... Whats your take guys and gals? ALL info is greatly appreciated as always

Not a question you should ever ask anybody else for an answer, you know, only you know and only you can ever know.
    Are you using Maschine ?
Are you doing everything you need to do ?
Do you have any use for Ableton ?
Should i just make music and stop worrying about what other people think of my set up ?

Maschine standalone is a sampling/midi sequencer. i won't consider it a DAW because you don't have audio tracks for recordings troughout the song. Maschine works with patterns and chaining them to create a song, a DAW uses lineair audio tracks..

I tend to agree with Tooshka's comments, yet I sometimes wonder myself if there is anyone else out there who has a better workflow with Maschine and another DAW. I too am an Ableton user, which I mainly use for DJ'ing stuff, but ever since I got the Maschine Studio and delved into music production, I've struggled to find a workflow that utilizes both Maschine and Ableton. Ableton is a powerful DAW but its workflow isn't nearly as intuitive as Maschine to just " jump right in " to a musical idea or sketch. That's what I love about Maschine and what keeps me using it for almost everything. I have done a few tracks where I export STEMS or tracks out of Maschine to master or tweek in Ableton, but that's about it. I've tried running Maschine as a VST in Ableton, but that seemed counterproductive to me --- having a sequencer inside a DAW that also can be a sequencer (not to mention eats up CPU). I've also tried running Maschine and Ableton as standalones to drag/drop stuff , which works OK, but I end up just doing the same things in Ableton that I could have done in Maschine. I've more recently tried using the Studio as a controller for Ableton, which has tremendous potential, but there is a learning curve (I'd personally rather get a Push 2 if I could afford it) . True, you have much more control with linear audio tracks in Ableton, but why complicate things if you can achieve the same sound in Maschine ? So yeah, I'm hoping that NI updates Maschine just enough to make it fully-functional DAW worthy enough that you don't need anything else take a song from a idea/sketch to a fully mastered track. Plus, fix all the other annoyances.

Great posts gents, both great views. Also Just as I figured, some people are actually recording vocal verses as samples directly into Maschine and layering vocal samples over scenes, making it somewhat of a work around to the linear format were used to in ableton but in a much different way, I also had a friend doing similar things within his mpc 4000, haven't tried it with the studio but ib suppose it would work. Even then I still have ableton suite 9, but suppose it will only be used for recording vocals. I will experiment with the sampling format for vocals with the studio and post updates here.

I hope maschine will become a standalone daw with a linear sequencer. It would beso great. I'm working with maschine and ableton, watched a hundred of video but cannot find a good workflow when using maschine as a vst inside ableton. My best tracks were done entirely in maschine so i tend to export the stems in ableton for mixing but when doing it this way it's a pain in the ass if you want to go back and tweak a little thing in maschine and then exporting it back to ableton (I always have some kind of artifacts when i'm using the drag and drop, maybe because i use a lot of built in maschine effects and different swing setting inside it.
