    Hello,

I've been trying to figure this out over the past day or so.

I came across an old , closed, thread on this board from 2010 where it is mentioned that :

"In the manual it says the S4 is capable of recording at either 16bit or 24bit."

Later , Tarekith goes on to say that , as of the time of the 2010 post, traktor could only record in 16bit.

Has the software changed yet to utilize the 24bit recording capability ?

There are no settings within Traktor that modify recording quality. I'm sure you could manage that in a separate program though.

To your knowledge has anyone hooked up the S4 and attempted to run it in audacity at 24/96 ?

I have just made a 24/96 recording in Audacity using my Audio 4 DJ, and I believe the S4 has an identical sound card inside.

If anyone can confirm that they've successfully used their S4 in audacity then please let me know!

Other than that I'm going to have to run an experiment or two the next time I get to the studio.

I just did a quick test and didn't have any joy, so want to confirm what you mean. Do you want me to set up Audacity to use the S4 as the recording source for microphone or the main mix?

A default Traktor recording seems to be opened as a Floating 32bit 44100Hz project, but I expect you mean actually recording with Audacity?

    Yes.

Using the soundcard that is inside of the S4 as the main for Audacity and then using audacity for recording the turntable output that is going through the S4's phono input which would then (hopefully) be routed through the S4's usb cable into the computer and then into audacity.

As stated earlier , supposedly the S4 can record at 24/96 but unfortunately it seems that Traktor Pro's recording option is singular and stuck on 16bit.

I am afraid at this point I may just have to suck it up and get an Audio 4 DJ ...

God DAMB YOU NATIVE INSTRUMENTS !

    lol ... wtf ... smh

I don't believe there's anything stopping you from using the S4 to record 24/96 in Audacity.

From the above post it seems tmccoy didn't even test the S4 in Audacity.

Traktor's recorder is indeed limited in its settings and getting an Audio 4 DJ will not give you the option for 24/96 within Traktor. It worked fine for me in Audacity like I said previously.

    confirmed.

    correct, no audio interface will.

the only thing to add: don't buy the snake oil, 16/44.1 is perfectly adequate. watch these two videos, read that article.

    Thank you for the input.

I had no intentions of using the Audio 4 DJ to record 24/96 within Traktor and dont recall where I ever gave that impression.

This is was the core question:
Anyway - as long as I can use the S4's sound card within Audacity and still be able to record at 24/96 then I will be satisfied : because that is what this particular project requires.

Thanks again for all the info.
