Can you mute/solo to build patterns?

I seem to be unable to build patterns using the mute and solo buttons

For example, on pattern 1 I'll use up all 16 sounds to make a loop. Next I duplicate that pattern to 16 other patterns. Now I want to go to each pattern and mute and solo sounds to build a track.

It seems when i mute a sound, that sound is muted for all the patterns, not just the pattern I'm focused on.

Is there a work around or am I doing something wrong?

I did a search using different combinations these terms: mute solo pattern maschine - with no luck on finding an answer

    Thanks in advance

sorry, but you will need to delete the events in the Patterns where you want just one Sound or a few Sounds :(

fwiw, recording Mutes and Solos is already a Feature Request.

Thanks for the quick response sowari

I hope this gets implemented soon - seems like a no-brainer to me.

I agree with DJAdonis! It's way less time consuming, instead of wasting time "Oh just delete it". I was like WTF when customer service told me that. I got so pist cause I sold my MPC for the Maschine since NI hyped it so much. It's not easy to arrange on the Maschine like it is on other platforms. It's just too time consuming. That feature should definitely be implemented especially if you're trying to get MPC users to convert. I was so pist when customer service told me "Oh yea you can't do that you have to delete each individually" that I went back to Reason and left the Maschine collecting dust for months. Almost a year passes by and I get an email that 1.7 update is coming out and I was like hell yea. Maybe they'll address the mute issue, the loop clicking or being off when you transfer it to your DAW issue but, naw nothing. It was just an update to implement Komplete 8. Thanks NI. I guess the Maschine will still be collecting dust because after installing 1.7 I got a new glitch. My loop for some reason when put in scenes is off. Word of advice, listen to your current customers keep them happy so they can keep buying your products.

workaround - run maschine inside a DAW if you have 1. send control messages or if you have another controller/keyboard use that to interact with your DAW mixer to remove volume where required.

    If no DAW
draw in automations in Maschine - I know that's awful and not as quick as tapping the mutes trust me, but hey if you know where you want your mutes it isn't so bad, just set up the grid to assist.

I, too, was very surprised when Patterns didn't retain their mutes. However, erasing the parts you don't want is really not that much slower and once you get doing it, you'll not be so fussed about mutes (though it should still be an option and has been a feature request for a while).

    1. Build up a beat with all the parts you want in it
    2. Hold PATTERN and DUPLICATE and then press the Pattern you just made and then as many other pads as you want variations
    3. Go to the next duplicate Pattern
    4. Hold down SELECT and press button 2 ("events"), then while still holding SELECT, press the Sounds that you want to remove i.e., the ones you would mute
    5. Press SHIFT + Pad 9 ("Clear")
    6. Repeat steps 3-5

This is a lot quicker to do than to explain or even read. However, it's a little bit more involved to emulate a mute half way through a Pattern or somewhere that involves some of the Pattern data for a Sound to be retained. It is still possible though, you just have to select the correct range using knobs 5-8 while holding SELECT.

Otherwise, try as The Widowmaker suggests.

There's a very cool way to mute using a custom vst. You can learn about it over at machinetutorials.

Depending on the Pattern it may actually be quicker than mutes would be.

In practice (and with practice), it's certainly not much (or at all) slower than mutes, I'd say. As you say, with certain Patterns it will actually be preferable anyway.

Wow... is this still not possible? (i've searched) I'm relatively new to MASCHINE and I'm trying to do this...

it is possible to make a Mute device that is triggered by MIDI in Reaktor. basically you need to insert the device on Sound slots in a Group in an instance of a Reaktor FX VST, and route Sounds from other groups to those sounds.

You have several options for audio mutes:
The best current method for MIDI muting is to remove the MIDI: Erasing notes while the sequencer plays (ERASE + pad) is like a momentary mute automation for a pattern.

wanted to make a feature request for something like a "latch" feature when erasing notes this way so that way it will basically feel like mutes while it erases.
