Can't authorize after Re-install

    So I re-installed 10.2.6 and now the registration tool tells me my hardware config has changed (it hasn't) and spit out a new system ID.

    I've asked for new numbers by phone and by email. No response yet.

    So I'm wondering if it's safe to deactivate my "old" system numbers and just get a new code via the site. My fear is that I won't be able to get new numbers because it is in fact the same hardware config as before. And once you deactivate that particular configuration it's sayonara baby so I don't want to make a mistake here.

    Hi estero,

    for what it's worth I have already done this and it is painless. Just deactivate the relevant code on the website and re-run the authorisation tool.
    Should be OK.

    NI just sent me a new code this morning (thank you NI, pretty quick) so I should be good to go.

    I am wondering why a re-install of the OS would trigger an error code regarding a hardware change though.

    Things are getting much weirder now!

    Tried the new numbers but now my system ID has changed AGAIN, so it won't accept the new code. I have to contact NI again and explain that nothing in my system has changed except these ID numbers.

    Not only that but it fried my startup disk when I tried to input the code the last time. I knew the ID was different, but I thought I'd might as well give it a shot, since everything else was so screwy it might just work. But no. It crashed my system AND took my startup drive with it.

    I'm sure I can fix it but I'm going to have to buy Drive 10 or DiskWarrior first. DiskUtility can't repair it.

    I have the same problem, in Windows - but not after a re-install. I just have a constantly changing system ID. No actual changes to my system at all. Haven't managed to resolve it with NI support yet.

    Hope you have more success than I have had so far

    What a drag, sorry to hear about your troubles.

    I actually gave up after DiskWarrior reported 6,339 overlapped files which it couldn't fix. I've wiped my drive and tomorrow I'm going to install 10.3.2. Then maybe I'll have better luck.

    How have you got on?

    I hope you didn't lose too much data.

    I'm still waiting for NI to come back to me, despite numerous emails.

    If anyone from NI is reading this, how do I get support on registration problems?

    I've tried support, registration and info - they all only respond to my first message, with a reply which doesn't help me.

    Well I ended up wiping my boot drive (Jaguar) and installing Panther.

    My system is now rock solid with Logic, DP, Spectrasonics and Reason. However, when I add GPO it's crash city. Kontakt may work somewhat in 10.3.2. We'll see.

    Hi everyone, I had the same problem and I posted to NI about this. (Do search for the topic "Copy protection? Ha!") Apparently, your computer's ID has changed, but only because the system ID incorporates the date, or something date - related and as such, is constantly changing. You can just try inputting the previous code and it might work. It did for me. All in all though, I still think this stupid new system sucks.

    Thanks for the info.

    I did read that thread before...I will try your suggestion of trying the numbers again.

    The situation is ridiculous - I paid for this software in November and I still can't use it without getting accused of having not registered every day. And it causes Cubase to hang if it challenges while Cubase is starting up. If I haven't got it working by Saturday it's going back for a refund and I'm switching to something I can actually use (probably by Steinberg as I'm already successfully using their security system). I don't feel like NI care...

    One last question - if you do get it authorised, does it still ask you for the original CD from time to time? I was lucky I could still find mine after 4 house moves.
