I can't get Ableton Live to recognize Native Intruments at all. I have set it up to read from c:\program files\native instruments\vstplugins 64 bit, but no luck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Maybe a stupid question, but did you rescan after adding the folder location?

    Peace,

stupid question 2... You Verified that the NI VSTs are in that directory? the only reason I ask is that the Default path for NI VSTs is..

    "c:\program files\native instruments\VST64" and you wrote "c:\program files\native instruments\vstplugins 64 bit"

edit: unless you changed it in Native access...

    Peace,

I don't have a VST64 directory under c:\program files\native instruments\. I have a VSTPlugins 32 bit & a VSTPlugins 64 bit directory. The VSTPlugins 64 bit directory has .dlls for Komplete Kontrol, Reaktor, etc. I am assuming these are my Native Instruments plugins...

Maybe they changed the default, guess it does not matter since you can see them in the folder that Ableton is pointing to. So just to confirm, if you select Plug-ins from the Collections list, there is no listing for "NI"? That is what I see here, and when I expand NI I see all my "NI" stuff.

Again, may be stupid/obvious things, just have to ask.

    Peace,

In short though... start by making sure that the folder in which your VST's reside is also recognized by Live. The best way to check is to open Live's preferences and then check the Plugin tab, it will also list the directory it's looking for.

The "problem" with Live is that you can only have 1 directory for all your plugins (well, 3 if you count 32bit, 64bit & VST3, but you get the idea). Which is why I always install every VST to a dedicated directory (d:\ableton\vst) and point Live towards that as well.

Which is also something I'd like to point your attention to: Native Access allows you to customize the installation path, but this should also be a useful option to check where your product(s) got installed.

All I see when i go to Collections - Plugins is >VST3. When I open that, I see >Arturia, and when I open that I see >Analog Lab 4. I can use the Analog Lab 4 instruments in Ableton, along with all the instruments, sounds, effects, etc. in Ableton. But I have no access to anything from Native Instruments (Komplete Kontrol, Reaktor, etc.).

Is there someway I can change the Native Instruments plugin directory to show up in the Collections - Plugins - VST3 directory where my Analog Lab 4 is (it works!)

Unfortunately not. It's a new VST standard, and N.I. (and pretty much all of the VST (suites) I own too) are still on 2.

I agree with you though: I also seriously dislike this Live feature...

Does this mean your problem is resolved?

If not, Can you post a screenshot of your Ableton Plugin Prefernces page? (Options --> Preferences --> Plug-ins)?
    Peace,

I had the same issue too.

Just go to preferences and enable the VST custom folder and feel free to select your VST system folder.
I know it's dumb, but it works.

If I go to preferences and turn on "Use VST3 Plug-in Custom Folder" and browse to C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\VSTPlug-ins 64 bit and click on Rescan, my plug-ins folder in ableton goes blank. If I turn on "Use VST3 Plug-in System Folders" I can see my >Arturia, >AudioThing, >Focusrite, >iZotope and >ROLI folders. Still no luck with seeing anything from Native instruments.

NI Plugins are not VST3 they are VST2, you have to set your VST2 custom Folder to C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\VSTPlug-ins 64 bit.

get it doesn't make a difference since you can see them in the envelope that Ableton is highlighting. So just to affirm, on the off chance that you select Plug-ins from the Collections list, there is no posting for "NI"? cracking the coding interview pdf
