cant get the effects working on the X1?

    hi guys i need your help, i bought an X1 yesterday and spent last night getting it working with my pioneer setup, today i managed to get the sound working properly but i cant seem to get the effects to work on the X1, the play/cue/ loop and the search functions work fine but no effects? though they do light up when i press the buttons and when i turn the knobs the computer replicates this on screen, but no sound...
    i realise there probably something very simple here that im missing but can someone help me out?

    Do you have the "FX1" and "FX2" buttons "ON" on the decks you want the effects?
