Can't make F1 Sequencer mapping fully work in Traktor 3

    Hello,

so I just bought the new s4mk3 and since it has the nice little sampler/sequencer, I thought why not try it out with the F1 that can handle more than just one row of samples.
I followed https://support.native-instruments....equencer-with-a-TRAKTOR-KONTROL-F1-Controller (which I know is ment for setup of the sequencer in the older version of Traktor, but not a lot of things changed really) and I made the sequencer partially work, meaning - the controler button LEDs are glowing all blue with one yellow following the current step, and I'm also able to scroll between the played samples + the basic stuff like using sample volume faders and filtering knobs.
Now what doesn't work. When I press Shift button, it used to illuminate the buttons with the color of samples in Traktor, but it does not in T3, the buttons stay all blue (this would make navigation between samples easier). Also the rest of the functionality seems to be gone, like changing sample pitch, or basically anything that worked by pressing combinations of the rest of the buttons (SYNC, QUANT, CAPTURE,...)

I tried to delete all the other controller presets, leaving just the one for sequencer, but that didn't help.

I'm really not sure whether I did something wrong, or it just doesn't work and I shouldn't be even expecting it to work :D. But since the mapping was already there, I though it should be alright.

Has anyone else tried F1 in T3?

I'm fairly familiar with this mapping and I don't remember that they ever display sample colors other than blue. Can you set up your TP2 and do a quick video to show that LED behavior?

    Thanks!

Hi, sorry for the late reply..I was away for a while..

So I played with the F1 for like 2 minutes just to make the videos and you were right, the button color does not change by the color of the sample (I think I might have confused it with a mapping I had for Ableton I guess). I think the same goes for the change of pitch, that also worked in Ableton, but not sure about Traktor.

But yeah, I made the videos just to see the basics:
    Traktor 2 + F1 -
    Traktor 3 + F1 -

Comparing the two videos you can see that switching the sample pages/columns changes the color of the buttons in T2 while in T3 the buttons stay just blue.
Also previously the 'Size' button was ment for 'Play/Stop', now it's the 'Browse' button, which is in conflict with the 'Shift+Browse' combination. It was possible to basically use both - bang in some samples using the live preset while having a sequence running. Now it just bugs out and stops the sequencer..

I can't say I was a heavy user of the F1, I used it here and there. But as I said, when they added the sequncer (with the possibility of recording of the sequence and change of the quantation) I thought they improved it also for the F1. But sadly it's the other way around..

I'm not mad or anything, just sad that the F1 is now completely useless for me :/ . I'm considering making my own Ableton mapping and using it in link with Traktor...or just buying a hardware sampler/sequencer, that will work every time the same.

Very interesting - thanks for posting your observations. I just tested this on my mac and each slot is always blue. (as it is on my PC)
What is your specific version of Traktor and OS X?

Also what other NI hardware do you have connected at the same time with your F1?

I have exactly the same issue with traktor 3, even if only the f1 is connected, see my other thread

Did you select the correct tracks for your remix decks in the controller editor? select your F1 mapping and then under the in and out ports you'll see Device target, set that to the right deck you are using the remix decks on. maybe that helps? I've had some issues with the F1 default and user sequencer mapping and this was the fix. I was using deck D but got it on deck C so I got some isseus. Now I set it on deck D and it works fine.

I'm not sure if it's the same issue that you have, but give it a try. I just upgraded to T3 and want to start using my F1 again so I'll be testing it some more since I got this a few moments working now...

[edit] I was having problems the sequencer didn't work. I tried it with T2 and 3 but my colors won't change, they keep blue. Don't you have different NI user map in T2?

I'm using https://maps.djtechtools.com/mappings/6397 this map. be sure you don't set the F1 default map AND the user map on the same controller. You swap between those maps with SHIFT+Browse, once you are in the sequencer (user) map use the SIZE button to start/stop the map.

With the standard sequencer map I was unable to swap between normal F1 (default map) and the sequencer map (user map) without stopping the sequencer.
Also I had issues selecting different samples in the sequencer with the NI seq map.

Tried this with T2 and T3 and for me it works, but be sure you select the right deck in the controller editor
