after having a "audio recording could not be started! pop up all weekend, I did finally get it recording this evening when I right clicked the Traktor icon as "run as administrator". but when I came back after dinner the recording button worked, but there was no longer any level on the recording meter. I rebooted. now I finally got a recording level again, but now I could no longer load up a track in teh internal TSP. it simply wont let me.

I'm on windows 7 btw, with service pack one installed, I believe.

I looked and see the software lock is now on, on the audio 8 box

so I uninstalled, and reinstalled twice. every time as soon as the audio 8 box was plugged in the software lock button instantly lights up

now I know if it's working properly, you can remove software lock by opening Audio 8 DJ settings on your computer.. but on mine I never could no matter how many times I reinstall

I can see the little icon in my menu - here is ascreenshot ->
    http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/6...djsettings.jpg
but I cant open it, even when I select "run as admin" - nothing. I can rightclick properties. I see things about changing compatability and different users, owner, admin etc.. but I'm afriad to fiddle with that

basically it must be not installing properly. maybe something they did when they reinstalled windows at the computer shop last week is interfering with the process. because I never had this software lock problem before the reformat. but since it is locked I cant change the input mode

so it's still locked but at least I can capture a recording of my DJ sets. I mostly just spin vinyl 12"s so that's what I mainly need it for - as a soundcard. I'm afraid to touch it now until i use it again tomorrow to record, so I'm just leaving it on.

am I doing something out of order?

here's how I last installed tonight.

    1. clicked on traktor installation in CD
    2. right clicked "run as admin" - note this is a new twist. I never did that in earlier installations. I dont know if it's good or bad
    3. set up traktor
    4. select in setup wizard... audio 8 external mixer - I have 2 turntables plugged into a pioneer djm-600, which goes out to the audio 8 box
    5. install audio 8 driver
    6. plugged in audio 8 usb into computer and prevented wndows from looking for driver updates.. this failed *many* times. it often said either the Audio 8 or the Audio WMB someting or other failed to install. finally seemed to get it though
    7. then i installed the updated traktor that came out January. again installing as admin
8.I then installed the May 2011 update for Audio 8 driver - saw that software lock was still on, *uninstalled Audio 8 dj driver in control panel
    9. re-clicked on the January 2011 update for Traktor - it asked me if i wanted to modify and i said yes

and that's where I'm at now. as I said, software lock is still on, I cant load up any tracks in TSP - the little moving blob does move but it says "calibration failed". if i try and drag a track onto it, the cursor turns into a little circle with a line thru it, when placed over where the track should go. I'm assuming this is because of software lock

and of course, I can't open up the Audio 8 DJ settings no matter what

at least it's recording when I play a normal vinyl record on my turntable, hopefully tomorrow I can just hit record and do a mix. so as I said I'm not fiddling with anything until I get a couple mixes done

can anyone tell me what they think the problem is? I'm wondering if I'm doing the updates in the wrong order or something, or if the new installation of windows has some default setting that needs to be reconfigured for compatability. I'm clueless so it could be something fairly obvious to a more computer saavy person

thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

    cheers

    Liam R

i just figured out that you can hold in the "input mode" when you attach the USB to unlock the "software lock".
just an old trick i've learned over the years working with different devices. Hope it will help anyone in the same situation..
