    1. Start SONAR 6 PE, create a new default project.
    2. Load an instrument from the library into an audio track - any instrument.
    3. Save the project, then close it.
    4. Reopen the project.
    5. The instrument is screwed up. Tune is set to -35.01; pan is all the way to the left; volume is at 0. Setting these things to reasonable values still leaves the instrument unplayable - pressing keys on the virtual keyboard produces no sound.

The only way I've found to 'fix' this is to delete the instrument and reload it - every instrument, every time. (The only exception is instruments converted from giga format - those work fine.)

? I assume other people aren't experiencing this. What am I doing wrong?

Go into your Sonar projects options menu and on the MIDI out page, uncheck zero controllers when play stops.

    See if that fixes it.

    No luck, I'm afraid....

The problem appears even if I just open the project and close it, without playing anything.

Hmm... I'm not seeing that here with 6 PE and 3.0.1. I'd submit a support request if I were you.

    Submitted ...
Haven't received even an auto-acknowledge yet. Does it usually take days for that?

    Solved!

I should have remembered this - I was putting the Kontakt instruments into the FX bin in the audio track instead of using the synth rack. That doesn't work ... gotta use the synth rack. Now all is well.

I never did get an auto-acknowledge, and finally today got a reply from support saying 1) that they could only reproduce part of the problem, 2) a bug report was filed, and 3) in any case they'd only be supporting the latest version of SONAR (i.e. 7) anyway. Hmmm...

Well, anyway, I thought it might be helpful to post what I found, in case anybody else didn't realize (or forgot, like me) that you have to use the synth rack in SONAR.
