I'm trying to do the setup explained here to send midi from standalone to DAW, but I don't have a 'virtual output' listed in the standalone version on the midi tab.

Anyone know how to set up Kontakt standalone to send midi to daw? I think it might be because the tutorial uses a mac and I'm using windows 10, but I can't be sure. I'm trying to link to FL studio (although the problem looks like it's specifically related to standalone, not to the daw, since the options -> midi tab is only available in standalone.

    thanks!

If you would care to explain, I am curious as to what you are gaining by using this approach rather than simply opening the Kontakt VST plugin from within FL?

EvilDragon appears to be right, I ended up getting loopmidi and it made it quite easy to do.

The reason I wanted to do it is I was using a plugin that played a scripted midi pattern, and I wanted to take their pattern and edit it to make my own tweaks. Most modern kontakt libraries that generate scripted midi have a midi-to-host option but this one did not, so as a workaround I wanted to record the midi generated by the library and then edit it myself.

As far as I can tell you can't record midi in the kontakt VST version but you can record it from the standalone using the virtual midi workaround.

You avoid the DAW's audio latency issues during recording since you can send the audio directly from the stand alone application, on an audio side chain to your hardware's output.
