I use logic and just started using Kontakt 3. My problem with it is that when I load an instrument Kontakt seems to take over my keyboard and I get an extremely annoying error sound if I try to press a key.
My only way of regaining control of logic is by clicking in Logic in or Kontakt again. Now I know this isn't the end of the world but it sure is the most useless and annoying feature in I've come across in recent plug in frustrations.

Someone please tell me there is a way to make kontakt behave like a plug in and not a domineering stand alone. Why would anyone want this feature? It literally does nothing but disable your keyboard so you can't do something as simple as lets say CONTROL PLAYBACK! Is this seriously happening? Do I have a virus or something?

Nothing else does this except for Kontakt, Battery loads a patch and I still have control over logic so what gives? I tried unchecking Capture Keyboard From Host but that seems to be there for decoration as absolutely nothing changed. I absolutely hate this hostile take over of my keyboard, this is unacceptable.

Little annoying things like this are workflow murderers, what good is it to have great features and then some ridiculously stupid bug like this. I really hope there's a way to fix this, I love this sampler and would like to continue using it.

this is something that plagues NI products like Kore 2 as well.

i have been onto tech support and told them about this horrible issue.

kore 2 also steals all keyboard focus with plugin windows open.

I just tried this in PT 8 and it doesn't happen and Kontakt 3 is not even compatible with PT 8! There must be something really silly with the AU version. I'm just wondering how this one got by the cracks? I mean when Kontakt 3 was in beta testing etc how is it possible that no one noticed this? What do people do in Beta stages? Map instruments? Does anyone who test it actually use it in a real world scenario cause this just doesn't seem real.

The really funny thing is that if you create Logic presets for Kontakt and you close the plug-in window it STILL does it! I feel like throwing my Kontakt box out the window.

Come on Native Instruments, why is this PLUG IN taking over my DAW? Am I misinformed, should I be taking this out with Apple or something? Someone please give me a reasonable answer/solution, there's just no way Kontakt 3 has been out this long and still has this problem, no way on earth people are paying so much money to deal with this.

So there is no solution for this? Anyone from Native Instruments have an official reply?

these forums are very slow to get any kind of reply lately.

you should maybe phone tech support and let make it clear to them this is a real annoyance, I have and maybe it will be fixed in 3.5 ?

There's a thin line between love and hate with these software companies. I'm noticing a trend in forums where people are hanging on threads with products and companies just can't get it right. How does a bug like this live on for so long in what many consider the best sampler out. Even more important, how can people express frustration and be ignored? If that's not bad business I don't know what is.

It happens not only with Kontakt, I have the same experience with other plugins from other companies in Logic. Key commands, plugins, focus and hierarchy is always a messy patchwork. I've learned to quickly understand what behaves how and adjust my workflow continuously. The world is never going to be optimal. The moment one product update fixes one thing, two weeks later another product breaks it again.

In Logic, in general, the window that should have the key command needs to be in focus.

Anyway, you haven't mentioned it, so maybe this could help: There is an option in Logic to change the behaviour of key commands towards plugins, have you tried adjusting that to your preference?

If you never want to pass key strokes to plugins, I think you can turn it off in Logic.

There used to be a preference or setting in Logic where you could adjust what kind of key commands would be passed on to plugins. I can't seem to find it, weird.. you could choose between "All, All except transport commands, None". Maybe it was back in 7 and they removed it? Or I'm looking in the wrong places

Other plugins that randomly steal focus from Logic: Guitar Rig, Speakerphone, Alchemy, Ozone, Melodyne.. sometimes they grab the transport commands, sometimes EVERYTHNG, I don't know how to reproduce it, but it happens frequently enough to be noticable.

This has always been a mess, like I said above, one plugin fixes it to work nicely, and then Logic changes something and it doesn't work again for another plugin, they change again and then plugin number one doesn't work... and round and round... :) I've given up hope :)

PS - Kontakt doesn't steal focus all the time for me. Sometimes it behaves perfectly. DS.

I only have melodyne, will see what happens.

I think you are correct in saying it was removed in 8X

gislemn, I'm pretty sure Kontakt is the ONLY plug in that does this. Logic has an awesome library feature that lets you save presets and load them like native logic plug ins. This Kontakt bug renders that useless.

I'd love to put some blame on logic but I have pretty much all the popular plug ins and Kontakt in THE ONLY plug in to do this. I DON'T WANT THE PLUG IN FOCUSED, SO WHY AM I FORCED TO HAVE IT FOCUSED? NI let me make that decision, not you. And if your going to have a feature that supposedly turns that off it would be cool if it actually worked.

This is the most annoying feature I've ever had to deal with. I actually have to click the screen EVERYTIME I want to press play or stop after selecting a patch. Kontakt right now is the destroyer of all workflow, the keyboard highjacker, the dark lord of annoying error sounds. Horrible.

It is definitively not every time for me, it happens sporadically, and it happens with other plugins as well, not just Kontakt. It happens frequently enough to be irritating but I've learned to adapt.

Maybe there is something peculiar to your setup? If it was like that for everyone I'm sure there would be more posts about it.

Well since the first post I've been asking if there was something I'm missing and no one from NI has responded, which has lead me to believe that this is an accepted problem. One they may or may not be working on. It happens every single time for me.

The Logic preference for text input/capture keyboard disappeared with Logic 8 - brilliant :(

I do have a workaround for the one situation where this affects me, which is entering text into the search field in Kontakt 3. Although you can't enter text directly if any letter or number you want to enter corresponds to a Logic key command (you get the key command action instead), you CAN type the text into another text-based application ( I use Mail) then hilight and drag-and-drop the text into Kontakt.

hey mpmusicny, typing is not the problem for me, it's how after selecting a patch kontakt basically freezes logic until you click on the screen.

Hi, I have a similiar problem, in that I am not able to rename guitar rig presets because the host(Ableton) is stealing focus. The work around at this point is to simple close the host, and open guitar rig in stand alone. I am also wondering is there a way to copy text into wordpad(xp) and paste it in the guitar rig browser?

Heck, I was also frustrated with this issue , but I think it has more to do with host/plugin conflicts. So I would not be too upset with NI. I have posted about this before, and they said they are working on it. Worst case scenario is you run Kontakt on a second computer. Which to me, is really an indication of how powerful the software is. In a way, it's not ready to be completely constrained to the plug in world. But I do hope host and plugin makers can solve this "stealing problem" in the next year
    ---
See if the host (Logic) has a workaround. I just found one for Guitar Rig and Ableton. A file called option.txt that goes in app preferences. Good Luck

Yeah the "Typing" aspect seems to be a common problem, but that one I can actually understand. The fact that after selecting a patch Kontakt renders my keyboard completely useless until I click the screen is out of this world bad. I don't know if it's logic or NI at fault but given that no other plug in does this, I'm betting its NI's.
But like you said, I'm sure they know about it and are fixing it. I tell you what you, if this still happens with 3.5, I will declare and all out war with NI so that it gets fixed. This hurts ALL logic users, badly.
