I think it is pointless having decks with Traktor. Why waste time beat mixing tracks when it will do it for you! Wonder how long it will take Cox to completely ditch the decks?

does anyone here find it difficult turning up to a club and having to set up the laptop with traktor pro, audio 8 interface and midi controllers?
The last dj often doesnt give you enough time to get your stuff all hooked up.

Thats why I play first, alone, with people who owns Traktor or in places with minimum two mixers

I don't see how a dj can't give you enough time to get your stuff hooked up? It's just a matter of showing up early enough to do your work. Basically the only thing you have to do, that could bother another dj, is connecting the cables to the hardware mixer and if you're a little friendly no dj will mind that as long as you do it the moment where he is diggin' in his crates.

It's easier than turning up with traktor scratch pro, audio 8, fx controllers, time code and multicore cables! You just need to free one channel on the mixer if you are going internal mixing...

Respect to Carl. If he uses Traktor, it must be some good program.
But a pro not using "Pro"..makes me kind of wonder which program really is "PRO"?
Ritchie not using it and Carl.hmmm Traktor 3.4 Pro.

There is nothing unusual with people using an older, more stable version of performance software. A lot of people didn't use Traktor 3 until 3.2. I myself am using Traktor Scratch and don't plan on switching over for performances until 1.0.3 has been bedded in.

Well... as long as the majority of controllers look like toys (they're -usually- plastic, weight next to nothing and are generally bloody small) when compared to the simplest CD-players in the market, I prefer using the decks for control.

When I'm performing, I want to let the audience see that it is me who is playing the music and not the computer.

I think the reason many of the controllers on the market at present are small is because generally, when a DJ with a laptop plays, they're playing on their own equipment, and not a club installation, therefore there's usually very little space in the booth to set up.

If you have the space for it, there's definitely controllers you can use though, the Denon CDJs, Stanton SCS1d, EKS Otus. I have a strong feeling the CDJ1000 Mk4 will also have full midi control, and they can't be long coming now...

This is my hope too. Just not sure if it will happen or not. I think a DJM800 MKII might be more likely with built in controllers..

More clubs need to take this into account. This one club I played at had 4 CDJ 1000 and 1 SVM-1000 mixer, top of the line gear ...but everything was nailed to the effin booth so I couldn't hook up my Audio8. Luckily this was the first time I had brought cd-backups so my ass was saved.

The audience know I'm playing because I am constantly booting tunes up into the mix! Having 2 CDJ's to control tracktor is a waste of cash, time and space. Possibly, I am over reacting to people who want to learn to beatmatch, for the record I can do it in a flash, but my opinion is that you'd be better focussing on the sound when you can get something to take that element and sort it for you. Even though I use Traktor to Sync the tracks, sometimes it is slightly off when beat mixing so I have a couple of nudge track buttons mapped to my controller so I am still beat mixing.
    ---
Correct, the majority are as you describe, but you could sell 2 CDJ's and pick up a top notch controller! I sold 2 cdjs and an allen and heath 92 and bought a 4D and TPro for that price (plus $50 worth of beatport vouchers thrown in!).

Anyway, I think I might be going off on a tangent because I think I am correct but at the end of the day as long as the you can get the tunes mixed then I should probably keep a lid on it!:)

I just had an argument with my friend about this. He's bought a 3D and I've bought a 92 and 1D. I don't think I will throw away my 800s in a while, I still enjoy beatmatching ...and what do you do when your computer or Traktor fails on you in front of 2000 people..? I might be paranoid but I always like to have backup

yes i agree that if you turn up to the dj booth a bit early and are friendly then it should be quite easy to hook up your audio 8 and rca leads when he is ready to hand over.
My other thought was to mix into a cd of my own for my first track (say about 7mins long) and while that track was playing this would give me time to set up my stuff.

Yeah hes using the Faderfox DX2 , i think he got the idea from me (hah).

That girl in the vid is a rubbish dancer.

@tomflynn, i always have various mix cds with me that ive done for just this occasion. No-one will notice if the first 2 tracks are from your cd and you get the time to setup.

i totally agree karlos - it's a very good idea. I also take with me cd's just incase you can't get access to the in house mixer ports.
