CDJ 400 + DNX600 using timecode?

Hey guys, I am getting some CDJ 400s pretty soon to accompany my DNX600, and I'm wondering about the scratch capabilities...

I've read the best scratching results with them is when used as timecode; I hear MIDI is good too but it sounds like a digital scratch. I've heard HID mode has terrible lag and latency problems.

My DNX600 is not traktor certified, so can I use these CDJ 400s in timecode mode in OSX with this setup? Do you have to get traktor timecode control CDs for this as well I would imagine? And if used in timecode, do the looping/cueing/all other functions of the CDJ 400 work with traktor or do you have to midi map half of it?

Thanks a lot; there's so much confusion about this and I don't want to be lost when I first get these.

Either way it sounds like these are the way to go since I can use them without a laptop or with serato as well. I've thought about just getting the denon DNSC2000 since it's a nice midi controller for traktor, but these seem to have multipurpose.

    Hello Rumpus01, I also own a x600

I think you made the right choice getting yourself a set of media player/controllers.

Although your x600 is not a certified mixer it will work as one only under a windows operating system.

Imo The best way to use these would be midi/hid. I have a pair of media players also and prefer use them in midi over timecode.

    Is scratching important to you?

Hey Wyley thanks for the response, I forgot I made this thread so sorry for the delay. Scratching is not that important for me no, but I would like to be able to when I want. It's looking like I'm going to be going the cheap route and getting some DNSC2000s though. I really just want a jog wheel so I can manually beatmatch and the denons are cheap and compact and perfectly integrated with traktor.

I just don't think I can justify spending the money on CDJs when I would just be using them as MIDI controllers... that's really expensive midi controllers lol. They would give me the option to mix without a laptop, but since I've never done that before, I'm not sure that's the route I want to go. I can also use the DNSC2000s in serato, so I think it's the most logical decisino for me. After all, i'm only a bedroom/party DJ with no plan to play in clubs and such (i play deep dubstep... mala, coki, kryptic minds, kromestar, widdler, loefah, skream, benga, etc.) and people just want to hear house and top 40 bogus ****. It really just annoys me. I only mix for my personal pleasure, so I think i'll get the denons. They will also match the DNX600 pretty well.
