Do you guys see the s4 being updated next year, ive been contemplating getting one for a while now, dont have the urge to get it right this moment unless i come across a crazy deal. But with namm right around the corner i think i can hold out and wait to see if anything is announced. Been a serato user and have wanted to dive into the traktor pool.

I think we are nearing the end of the NI's all-in-one "advanced" controllers. All current moves are heading towards modular components. That being said, the S4 is still very much relevant, and is a great controller.

I think they'll need to try and compete with the new pioneer controllers so i can see an upgraded controller on the cards... maybe the S5 but there's no point waiting and missing out on the fun now... you can wait forever for the next big thing...?

if I look at the Pioneer DDJ-SX...

PLEASE GIVE ME THAT FOR TRAKTOR.

I know it is not NI_hardware....I could immagine two Options:

    1. please make a Controller like that. can cost 1000Euro, will buy it. DOT.
    2. please work with Pioneer to make an integrated device like Serato does. If the Software will cost me 200Euro on top: WILL BUY IT.

I have a S4 and I like it. I love the Traktor Software Approach much more than Serato. BUT: comparing the DDJ-SX with a S4...the S4 is a f****** toy.

Can you please elaborate? What makes it so great? And, the controller is only as good as the software it was made for. Do you like Serato DJ better than Traktor? Seems like the S4 has awesome integration with the software. How do you propose making it better?

I'm genuinely curious, because I have no experience with Serato.

IMHO, the only thing that the DDJ-SX has over the S4 are the pads. Ignoring the fact that the -SX is SDJ only, the S4 is STILL the only controller that has an upgrade path to a DVS without needing to buy another interface.

I don't see the S4 as a toy at all.

The problem with the S4 is that is super fragile. Pioneer products aren't usually. I had already 2 S4 (1 replaced in warranty) and the second one is starting giving me problems due to use. And I only use it for gigs so 2 hours twice a week.

Would also like to pay a little more for an S4 with decent build quality, I'm on my 2nd which had issues right out of the box..

The problem is that there's now a Pioneer controller that's better than the S4 for only $100 more. What incentive does NI have to bring out a new (meaning more expensive to produce) controller with likely less margin than what they currently have?

Answer: none. I don't think that NI will release an upgrade to the S4 until they have to... and they don't have to.

I keep reading that the Pioneer unit isn't what people expect. I'm also seeing more of them for sale. I wonder if shortcuts were made to hit that price point...

I have not had any quality issues with my S4 until it was ripped off last night.

I played on it 5-10 hrs a week. I think it would be cool to have pads, but I would assume that the size of the controller would go up which would make it less portable.
