Good news. I'm just surprised this information wasn't let out earlier, especially when a NI support post was recommending Jam be returned for repair...which then got mysteriously deleted.

Steffen. I have a question. Same issue persists on Traktor S8. Would it be possible to also apply the same method there?

Oh good, I purchased Jam 2 days ago... and the first problem is here. I hope that next update fix the problem.

Question..why have this white pattern focus as an option? Wouldn't everybody want to use this mode? Surely just replace it rather than have an option in preferences? Very least it should be the default. Just thinking of KISS principles when it comes to the UI.

You just got here, as I see this was your first post. Did you see the message from Steffen from this morning?

Also, there was a general announcement of what fixes and improvements were coming with the next soon-to-be-released version 2.6.5

I'm SO glad and very surprised i must say, that this fix was actually implemented. It was brought up on the forum and is the perfect solution. Thanks!

Hi Terri, thank you for you reply. I saw the message from Steffen. I suppose that the "White Pattern Focus" fix the problem. I have checked the other link too. Really, I´m a registered forum user years ago, but komplete forever ran correct for me, and I not wrote in the forum until today, but I´m new with Maschine and I´m very happy with my purchase. Jam is a powerfull machine with Maschine software.

Maybe some saw a "use for both cases" - would't rule that out. :D I also generally dislike ambiguity when it comes to user guidance. But maybe because of the the overall discontent about some aspects of Maschine a "radical", i.e. distinct solution, wasn't considered favourable and they might have wanted to provide an open solution. However, once someone ticks that box, it becomes the default behaviour, so it's not such a big issue for daily use (however, we will see the amount of support requests from new users who are unaware of this in the months to come, I guess :D). But I agree - it seems a bit odd.

    Hi,
for now we wanted to keep the original version as the contrast depends so much on the lighting and it seems to work well for many users with the original setting.

    Best,
    Steffen

As was explained earlier, not everyone had an issue with the way it was. It was dependent on lighting and how much juice your USB bus was supplying. My unit is fine even though I did wish for a little bit more contrast to make things more obvious. But it was still easy to tell what was the selected pattern. I don't like the new way as much because it illuminates all the pattern buttons full and is really bright to the point the glare makes me want to reach for my shades. Better to have it as an option. Personally, I would like to have a dim version of the same option.

This might seem a silly question but why would you prefer a dim version? Once you have this new version set in preferences are you really likely to change it... Like ...oh I feel like I'll have the dim version today...those lights ...so bright... They hurt :). And just because people may not have had the issue that doesn't mean they wouldn't want to use it the new way to keep things consistent?

Regardless NI will open themselves up to more tech support issue this way.. but if they want it that way then fine.

I prefer the old way to the new overall. It is bright enough to make me to want to squint and look away from he unit ( I am slightly sensitive to light). Not only that, I would prefer the old way to the white for aesthetics if only there was just a tad bit more contrast.

More tech support issues? I guess you could say that about any of the options in preferences.

...I haven't got a Jam (yet), but out of interest - would a powered USB-hub be helpful for the contrast of the dimmed light state?

Not sure that would necessarily help. I guess it depends on the hub as I could see some making the issue worse. And I suspect there may be some variance from one unit to the next on the contrast where some are slightly worse than others.

No you can't, most, if not all the other functionality in preferences do not resolve an issue where somebody would ring in perceiving a defect. In theory it shouldn't be in the preferences section they should have a new section called fixes ;)

Apparently not, hardware defect is ruled out, this is down to light "perception".

So either your lighting is wrong, or your eyes need testing or take off your sunglasses ;)
