Changing Octaves in Template Without Groups

    Hi all,

I'm working on a mapping for Logic Pro, and I was wondering if there was a way to change octaves without using groups. Ideally, I would like to be able to change the octave within a group, but because different groups have different functions, I don't have room for a C2-C3 and a C3-C2 Group of each type. Can this be done through Knob Pages?

    Cheers,
    Bill

As far as I know and remember, this can't be done using the Controller Editor alone. Unless you create different templates and switch between those, but that could be as cumbersome as using the Groups.

Have you considered using a MIDI plugin in your DAW that you can map a control to and alter the MIDI stream? I don't know what's available in Logic, but there might be something that does what you want. Alternatively, there's Bome's MIDI Translator or MIDIpipe or some other such program that could allow you to do what you want.

So as I've spent a bit more time playing around and thinking about what would work best, I think that hitting a designated "Down" button or "up" button, would shift the entire pattern on the maschine down by 4 semitones, effectively making Pad 1 an E instead of a C. This could be done with groups if there was a toggle group button set up that could be done with 1 button.

It might not work for your setup and what you want to achieve, but what MIDI plugins does Logic have?

Edit: Hang on... Am I being insensitive? Can AU plugins output MIDI? I have this nagging feeling that it's a limitation of the plugin type.

I wouldn't be using the AU. I'm working on a Logic specific midi mapping, so everything is done in Midi mode.

For clarification, this is what i'm looking to do

    Position 1.

    C4 - C#4 - D4- D#4
    G#3 - A3 - A#3 - B3
    E3 - F3 - F#3 - G3
    C3 - C#3 - D3 - D#3

    *Hit designated "Down" Button *

    Position 2.

    G#3 - A3 - A#3 - B3
    E3 - F3 - F#3 - G3
    C3 - C#3 - D3 - D#3
    G#2 - A2 - A#2 - B2

Indeed, I understand. I mentioned AUs, not because I thought or it mattered if you were using the Maschine AU, but because in, say Live, there are MIDI plugins that would allow you to map a button to one of its functions to do such things as this e.g., map a toggle button to Live's Pitch MIDI plugin, adjust min/max values et voilà. But I don't think this is a viable option for Logic.

MidiPipe (http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10541/midipipe) might be able to be configured to do what you want, but it's a long time since I've used it and can't remember its available actions.

Ah, I see what you mean. Thanks. If I'm getting what you're saying, it would allow me to bypass the need for groups all together by basically changing the midi signal before it reached logic.

Sounds cool, I'll look into it.
