A few years ago I started a thread (now closed) about the Univox, Musitron, Clavoline, and other early synths with interesting (and creative, challenging and/or primitive depending on how you feel about it) performance configurations. Of course the most magical of these might be the Ondes Martenot. I tinkered then, and I'm tinkering again now, with some hacked Reaktor instruments that play with some of the performance ideas of these synths. One of the things that stumped me before, but that I'm returning to, is the idea of a ribbon controller with soft-keyboard-takeover. I've attached a file with a recent effort in this direction. The synth will accept pitch from the keyboard or the x/y ribbon. Right now the ribbon is louder than the keyboard -- not sure why that is when both signals are being sent to the same oscillator. Anyone interested in taking a look? I apologize for the hillbilly construction, I've just cobbled it together with bibs and bobs from wiser folks in the UL, and I'm not particularly math, audio or computer smart, just a curious experimenter.
