I recently purchased Komplete 6 to use with at least one of the two laptops I own. They are both relatively old but still very usable - one core2duo 2ghz, the other amd turion dual core 2.1ghz, both with 4GB of ram and win XP (they were originally vista). First with integrated vga, the other with dedicated.

With both I had clicking noise, so I decided to reinstall the AMD one (it's slightly
more powerful) from scratch with windows 7 ultimate and see how it goes.

Not much changed as far as clicking is concerned. I tried playing with buffer sizes and increasing buffers doesn't help at all, sometimes it's even worse with large buffer (512/4ms). I settled with 7.5ms (I think it's 92/2ms) as that's the fastest setting that doesn't cause dropouts and other stuff besides clicking.

I tried to disable pretty much every device except for one USB controller that komplete is connected to. Even without disabling anything, there were no IRQ conflicts. Unfortunately, disabling all that didn't change much. There's still a click every few seconds, sometimes even faster if I play faster :) I use amplitube, but I've tried both that and guitar rig with the same results.

Clicks are only there through monitor while playing/recording, as far as I could tell, there were no clicks on the actual recording when I record and play back.

I installed latency checker (although there's similar tool under diagnostic) and it's green most of the time with periodical yellow spikes. I ran it before and after disabling devices and noticed no significant difference.

There's nothing else on that laptop, just windows, NI drivers and amplitube.

I tried sending a support question but got useless response :(

Any ideas where can I look?

    Thanks,
    Bancika

I should add that under win7 I used the latest drivers and under XP whatever is supplied with the device, I think 3.0.2. I tried getting the latest supported XP drivers from support but no luck.

    Cheers

Update: tried turning off unneeded services and still no luck. Latency is actually ok according to dpc latency checker, but clicks still occur periodically. Any ideas?

There is a tool named LatencyMon that can help you find the source of some problems - there's a link in this forum somewhere or google it.

I was able to fix similar issues by turning off my wireless adapter... LatencyMon reported problems due to Storport.sys driver that were related to wireless somehow.

So, if you haven't tried it yet, turn off your wireless and see what happens.

I completely disabled wireless under device manager, but no luck. Looks like it's not latency to blame. Tnx

So I guess you already had a look at ...

    1)... NI's Windows Tuning Tipps
There's also a (longer) thread on the forum about Optimisation tips for your windows laptop...

    2) ... and also checked for the latest firmware available in the download area
(requires driver version 3.0.3 - check the infotexts for that)

I assume you are using the KA6 ASIO drivers in Guitar Rig or Amplitube.

Is the KA6 also enabled as playback/recording device under Windows Sound Preferences at the same time?

thanks for your replies. I got it to work pretty well. There's still a relatively quiet click every couple of minutes, but nothing major...and it's not recorded. I'd say it's pretty usable now.

I updated bios, all drivers I could find on HP site and turned off power saving settings for USB and CPU. BIOS update seemed to help the most.

    Cheers,
    Bane
