Of course NI look at this subforum, it's why it is here.
Writing to Ean Golden will do no good, he has no part in the development of Traktor software that I am aware of.

I have already forwarded this request and many other browser improvements to the development team.

Browser improvements are what I am looking forward to the most in any future versions of Traktor. I think it should be the priority.

    +1

It's really simple to implement. Just add a color swatch picker and a column in the track info. There should be at least enough hues in the swatch to cover the Camelot Wheel.

Side note: For those wanting to do this now you could always replace the cover art with your own and make it a color.

Yeah I already did this once.
I changed my mind and reimported covers in the hope that we will get browser improvements. I think a colour column is a no-brainer.

Here we go again, If NI looks at this forum it's just to have a laugh.

They won't make these changes, they haven't yet, it's been YEARS worth of GUI change suggestions, and only begrudgingly have they added color to the waveforms, forever ago now it seems.

Such a shame that NI doesn't care about improving legacy issues with what could've been the best DVS.

If people were asking for a new blinky button box I'm sure they would listen.

Now you and Freshfluke can tell me all about how great NI is. Go......

    ... posts like maybe.

They didn't "begrudgingly add them. They had to develop the 'Tru-Wave' technology. Only an idiot (and I'm not saying you are one) would think they could 'just add Serato style waveforms' which was the call that people kept making. They had to develop them along with the other features they were working on but users become so obsessed with a feature request they cannot look at them objectively. Stuff takes time.
Do you really think NI have been sitting on their hands for the last 5 years?

Browser improvements aren't "legacy issues", it is an ongoing and frankly too slow process...I have been outspoken at how crap the Traktor browser is...but guys like you choose to ignore the countless times I have stated this...meh.

And there's me thinking that people around here said NI 'don't' listen to what they want in hardware.

I can speak for both of us when I say that neither of us have ever said "how great NI is"... you're just trying to sound bitchin'.

Nobody wants browser improvements more than me. Christ I even stated on this forum that Virtual DJ has a better browser.

I await your reply which will ignore all that I have said and just tell me that I am an apologist for NI.

So we agree? Is that what you said? pardon my surprise, and frankly if you think you and Fluke don't come off as apologists for NI, well.......

I don't remember people ever asking for blinky button boxes, so if the F1 was borne from this feature suggestion forum, I'll gladly stand corrected. My remark about NI only listening to blinky box suggestions was a sarcastic one, trying to point out where the company's prioritys lie. I think they're more interested in stuff like blinky boxes than improving on what they have.

For me as a DJ, and not someone interested in products that blur the line between "live production/performance" and DJ-ing, I just can't forgive the neglect that is apparent from NI. It sure does seem they want to sell more boxes, rather than do an upgrade to the GUI that won't bring new revenue, great business model, but I feel making the program better before making boxes would be a much better long-term model to follow.

Someone had listed the features from this forum that have made it into the program and how long it took for their implementation, I can't remember the exact thread, but the answer was pretty pathetic, maybe you could help me and find the thread.

I consider GUI improvements a legacy issue, mainly 'cuz they've been needed for so long, NI HAVE been sitting on their hands when it comes to this GUI improvement issue, I'm much less enamored with NI's other "achievments" and just wish they would make the GUI configurable, colors, stacked waves option, etc. Is it a 5 year process? really?

It has been years, you can admit it, NI really cares about this forum? really? it sure doesn't seem like that at all, rarely does anyone from "up above" chime in with real answers. They mosly hang you two out to dry.

Well this just confirms to me that you are being purposely belligerent. What a silly thing to say.

No I don't agree with you, I agree with myself. I have been banging on about browser improvements since 2008 when I posted a mock up split-browser plus I have added my support to many feature requests made by users but you seem to have selective reading issues.

I don't expect you to know that the browser has been a pet peeve of mine since before 2008, you haven't been around here that long but If this issue is such a priority for I do expect you to judge me on my words on this subject over the time that you have been here and not on you want to perceive based on my position here.

Well this is where your 3 years on the forum fail you and again I suggest you read too selectively.
The request for a Sampler in Traktor was one of the top 2 most frequently requested features for years along with 'Bring back the Native Mix Recorder'... in fact I would say that a sampler was more requested than anything else, people banged on and on about it.
The Remix decks are advanced sample slots and they clearly need hardware to be used. People often talked about using controllers such as the Trigger Finger but that would clearly be limited in it's ability to control the sample decks to their fullest. The F1 was born out of the necessity to control the sample/remix slots.

I can partially agree with this but they developed the sample/remix decks at mass user request.
Do I wish the had developed the browser instead, yeah I do but other people disagree.

I don't think it helps to look at the business model and overall development in such black & white terms. NI have to 'catch the eye' or new users and new hardware is a great way to do it. As for making the program better, I refer you to my previous statement. If only I could believe that it would sink in.
This isn't 'development by democracy'... If it was Traktor would look like sh*t with leopard print skins and 400 decks.
People often cannot grasp the fact that NI don't implement some feature requests because they do not want to, they do not agree. This tends to lead to people claiming that NI "aren't listening" which is wrong just plain wrong. NI see and read every request. I would say that the problem is that they don't just come flat out and say 'no we will not be doing that' often enough. NI should put things to bed more often but even then it's not that simple. As soon as NI say 'we are considering this' people start stamping their feet demanding progress when it might not be as high a priority on NI's roadmap.

Well 'legacy' in a software context generally means 'outdated' or 'discontinued' and I don't accept that this issue is over. Semantics maybe.

The GUI will never be that configurable. The requests for moveable objects will never happen. Stacked waveforms may, but there are plenty of people that are not interested in them. Why not make a choice for the user? Why bother if it isn't in the interest of the majority of users. Until someone can convince NI that the Phase Meter is less powerful than watching 2 waveforms rush pass you, the request will stay just that. That debate is a whole other kettle of fish.

    Again, selective reading.

I'm here of my own volition. If I felt like a lamb to a slaughter I would have disappeared a long time ago but the shear fact that I reply in such detail to posts like yours show that I want the best for this software... rather than NI hanging me out to dry I'd propose that it's 'some' users blind rage at NI that they feel they have to take out on me regardless if I have already agreed with them or come round to their house and cooked them a 5 course meal. I think the term is 'thick skinned', I can live with it. I know I do a lot of good around here especially when it comes to representing the average user through the various channels that I communicate with NI on be it on the beta team or consulted by admin or devs. They don't always act, but they always listen.

This is a user-to-user forum. NI read it but they don't contribute that much and that's just the way it is. I read a lot of product forums and I don't see any 'big companies' taking part in their forums to greater extent than NI do.

tl/dr ; I'm bored and avoiding other work.

At any rate I think this will make the next update. NI is already aware of the value of adding colors to their products like Maschine, Kontrol F1 (Remix Decks), and so I see no reason why they'd avoid adding a simple color tag to the track info. In fact they could auto add Camelot Wheel colors to the Key and/or Key Text fields based upon key. I think it be extremely helpful to look at my tracks and see at a glance by color what songs flow into the other by the Camelot Wheel/mix in key system which is quite popular now. I mean sure, I can just look at the keys or relevant tag of 5A, 7B, etc. but you know, when your Djing every little thing that helps your flow is good.

Instead of "purposely beligerent" try totally frustrated.

You thought of the GUI improvements first in '08, awesome. So since '08 you've noticed areas for improvement, that makes it 6 yrs.

I just don't live on this forim, I'm not really interested in visiting all that often, every time I come around though it's the same thing, a lot of people shouting but not really getting heard. To argue you on some of these points would be fruitless, and what I've said still stands, NI can do what they want for whatever reason, I certainly don't have to agree. Keeping up with the update roller-coaster is trying enough, having to stay up on feature requests, etc. Thank god I have a life. You can call me a selective reader, really occasional reader is the more accurate term.

I like a lot of what you're saying and am glad someone is here to be an advocate, but I still don't agree about a few things. I've stated these issues earlier, no need to re-hash.

A re-read of both our comments, definitely puts us closer to the same page, than not. Semantics does play a part in this "argument", without re-visiting every point, this commonality is clear to me.

Let me sum it up, NI please have a better presence in your own forum, please change the GUI. Was that polite enough? And could you tell NI that there are people out there, like me, that are frustrated enough to start being dicks on the forum. Didn't come here at first to be troll, and I don't have a huge post count, but I am just calling it like I see it.

Fair comment. Let's leave it at that.

For what it's worth, the last time I submitted a browser improvement was on Friday. Still pluggin' away.

I purchased Traktor in 2011. At that time I contacted support and asked if color coding tracks was an option. They stated it was a good suggestion and it was supposed to be added in a future version.

It is now March 2014... No colors yet. So I continue to use PCDJ DEX v1 because I can color code my tracks.

I have MS (Multiple Sclerosis) which affectes me vision at times. To be more specific: Optic Neuritis. My left eye focuses slower than my right. I would put my Traktor laptop into production right now if I could make viewing tracks easier.

Microsoft Windows has accessibility features for users with impairments. I don't understand why this feature cannot be implemented into Traktor.

    Respectfully posted,

If you click on Key in the browser you get colors per key, however they disappear if you click on ay other sort type. So at the very least it be good to maintain colors in the Key area even if one chooses to sort by different parameters.

A simple way to do this could be in the deck layout of preferences. Have an option for deck header(info area) to match key color or match a bpm color. Use a very subtle color a slight hue. Since most everyone looks at that area it would not need to be neon or anything just a subtle reminder of what is going on at a glance.

Just saw the latest release screenshot of VDJ. Not a good example of colors. I think just a small amount of borders or titles would be good.

TRACK COLORS - I've been requesting this for a few years now. PCDJ DEX can do it. Why can't the World's Leading DJ Software do it?

I have MS that impairs my vision at times. Having my tracks color coded would really help me. Wish the developers would consider the needs of persons with disabilities.
