    You are so correct.

Its wildly silly to compare Maschine without consideration of costs. MPC's are 3 - 4 times as much and trying to discredit the game change of vst support in a $500 hardware software by pointing out a $5000 box is desperate at best. I've had Maschine for a year and a half and must have features for me have been added and I like getting more.

OK my dude first off that groovebox is dope nice link. I doubt it will be 599 though. Also if you are going to compare the MPC5000 to Maschine make sure you factor in for 1999.99 You could get either a macbook/pc laptop along with maschine or a channel strip or a nice interface. I have had every MPC minus the 60 an SP12 a ASR10 and that EMU groovebox. For those pieces to be on the same level they would need to drop a new one every 6 months which is impossible and not cost effective for the company. Maschine is software with a hardware usb interface. They can update the code as they see fit. I would take my RME Multiface my quad core PC and Maschine over an MPC all day.

I am sorry but I don't buy music production gear based upon cost alone so I am don't get your argument. I am also not sure why you are talking about getting MPC 5000 as oppose to Maschine and a lap top. But you can do you as much as you like.

I just happen to own both an MPC and Maschine. If you actually read what I wrote, I am advocate of Maschine. But like many in the forum, I need it to do much more because I am actually looking for something to replace my MPC. There is no need to rehash all the functions in Maschine which are limited compared to an MPC in this thread. But the fact remains, Maschines has quite a few limitations (and I look forward to more updates....free or otherwise). But I will say that Maschine boasts to be a controller completely intergrated with the software but that is less than 100% accurate. Not all of Maschine's functions can be accessed from its hardware. You do need a keyboard and/or mouse for certain functions. I look forward to more improvements in this area. While Maschine has had some updates...it still lacks basic sample editing functions that was possible on MPCs created over a decade ago.

Are you insinuating that I came in here *just* to ask for a feature request for an Akai product? I'd be happy if you can show me where in my initial post you came to this conclusion.

My original request asked what the benefits of Maschine over an MPC are disregarding the VST support. A request which you had nothing to offer. Ironically you got involved with the discussion focusing primarily on the MPC. I say ironically because..... ".....My issue with JAHROME and others is that I don't appreciate coming into an NI site on the Maschine forum, in a Feature announcement thread and seeing fifty posts on how much better the MPC is. Great! its better, you win a cookie, but i didn't come here for that".
Cool! But let those who want to discuss the difference between Maschine and MPCs do so. It's no biggie really.

I am very interested in Maschine but before diving in, it would be my best interest to make sure it is exactly what I am looking for. I use the MPC as a comparison because it's something I am comfortable with and enjoy using.

The proper grammar is "Since you're being a bit dense". Now then, what was this whole thing about me being dense?

Really fail to grasp the idea of price comparison when weighing out features of a product but just to clarify......
A decent Macbook Pro (if you want to go the Mac route) is $1800 on top of the cost for Maschine. If you go the PC route, a computer geared for decent audio recording/performance (ADK etc.) will be about the same price or more depending on specs. Rounded off, we are looking at roughly $2500. Now if you want to use professional VSTs, that's a whole new set of money to spend. Still cheaper than a flagship MPC but way more than the $500 you mention. Yes, someone such as myself needs to factor in all these costs because I am starting from scratch. This is why I really want to make sure Maschine is what I am looking for because I would be buying a new computer just to run it.

I didn't see your posts at all. My price comparison was in response to Jahrome comparing Maschine to the $5000 ( http://www.feeltune.com/en/products/...ur-de-vst.html) I've never heard of not factoring cost when buying equipment. If thats the case why not have a custom fabricated groovebox for $15k or $20K.

Anyway to your point of evaluation.I'd strongly suggest that you go with an MPC and not buy Maschine. Going into such a purchase with a high degree of skepticism and a feature list that you've already found on the MPC , why would you want to? I've never understood why people who have such a deep affection for the MPC even bother to look elsewhere.Sounds like you've already found what you want.

Id just like to get some balance in this thread.... and so Id like to declare the following....

MPCs are the worst music product ever devised, all music made with them sucks, they are bad for your eyes, and prolonged use of one makes you retarded, a sissy and quite possibly a devil worshipper....

You may now return to your MPC vs Maschine ramblings :)

as a long time mpc user I have to say.... come on guys really? bickering in threads is so '02 right lol...

on the real rhizome looks dope, also it doesn't look like it really competes in the same job space as maschine (or an mpc for that matter) it does look interesting. I'm not a fan of it having the cpu built in cause that means in a few years that it will be stuck with the plugs it can run now... when we are on to much faster cpu's in laptops and what not. if it was just a nice controller with 2 way feedback and could just have soft upgrades and allow you to upgrade your cpu as u see fit seems like a longer life span decision to me. also the pads don't really appeal to me laid out that way. (though I could see for certain genres it would be really great)
anyway how did this thread become another pissing match?
oh thats right... another free update for maschine.... ok so on that point I'm wondering when the "other" features in 1.6 will be made known... I look forward to us all having fun and smiling with our free update. not bickering. :) it's wierd I'm thinking about it and through various forums I've known alot of you for years. somethings just never seem to change. lol
oh btw Akighost... I knew all my music was sucking for a reason... thanks for letting me know, (good thing I let my cousin hold my mpc LOL that sucker! LOL)
    peace Fam...

Yeah. What happened to this thread? Where did all the MPC fanboys come from? Make a new post if you really have to :/

Maschine is as powerful as your computer. Current MPCs are slowly losing a battle and there's not much you can do about it (until they bring a new one out and you're prepared to pay 10x as much) Adding VSTs is a godsend, if you own a Maschine you should be rejoicing. Other fixes will come with this update. Some of you don't know how lucky you are. This is a BIG feature that will lay current MPCs to rest /fanboism

Yeah ,its starnge, A fantastic announcement from NI and the mood is hijacked by a couple of posters with a bizarre MPC fetish. What makes some people want to not allow others enthusiasm?

I hope NI develops Maschine as they see fit with actual user input ,not some folks holding onto the past with "love affair" devices they want to see replicated over and over.

from this point on it only can get better...i repeat, for me its the perfect thing..i like to have a piece of hardware but i can jump in with my computer at any time, thats workflow boosting...we are able to upgrade the computers to make the flow even better and better...and for this money? its awesome...there will be haters everywhere with everything...i hate kanye west too, lol... its like with every issue on this big big planet...kindergarten...period.

i think we should stick to the topcis of this forum and its threads

Well I sure hope it's time for Real MIDI. Cant really use Maschine without it. I have too many racks. One could purchase there own MIDI interface and have as many INs and OUTs to there liking. But this feature is ESSENTIAL.

And we've only heard about one single feature on the upcoming 1.6 update. You guys realize there's more to this update than plugin hosting, right? Expect more goodies like sidechaining and perhaps a better song arrangement features.

I have to agree on that. I was part of that thread. Mine came loose around buttons 4 & 5. I thought it would eventually sink in by pressing it down consistently but hasn't really. one thing I don't like is that maschine attracts finger oil that turns make's it look unappealing. That's why I wish the WHOLE thing was made of metal, or aluminum.....oh and the display-maschine at my local guitar center looks grayed out like an ash tray

p.s. never clean maschine's screens with paper towel it will scratch it.

Jahrome has a talent for getting on peoples nerves where ever he goes haha :D but
and be honest the majority of the time he is informative. Allot of you need to understand that there are many types of samplist, on different forums I always see the same kind of people having a problem with Jahromes post but he does have something to offer. He knows his mpcs better than most maschine users know their maschine and their previous mpcs and this shouldn't be overlooked. For some people Maschine is already perfect, right now as it is. Are you that type of samplist?
there is nothing wrong with that but when we argue and bicker allot of the important details get lost in the mix. For instance did you know that Jahrome is not that 'type' of samplist............think about it for a minute, now if you find yourself arguing with someone over maschine and they are not even the type of musician you are then you are not really having true dialogue. let me give you an example,

I've only seen one other person here mention that on their mpc they like to make patterns/sequences of different tempos (not the same tempo all the way through) that happened to be f-major... now for me this is a crucial feature that I'm missing on Maschine which I love that I use constantly on my mpc-2500 which I also love and have no plans of getting rid of. now this is just one example of many and it's a pretty big feature issue that you never hear people talking about and I know all of you don't just make music that stays the same the whole song through and for those of you who do, nothing wrong with that I make songs like that also, my point is that it's clear that allot of you folks fighting with Jarhome are not the same type of musician that he is, if you understand that first then you probably wouldn't get so heated and get into making duragotory personal comments, you might not like what he has to say but you can easily see that he's not out to personally insult anyone.

then there are the users who hate for you to request any improvements and just want you to stick to using work arounds, these types hate for you to make one feature request.....this makes no sense, again as an example I use work arounds for tempo issues like resampling and cutting time in halfs or doubling time and such
but it would be and I'm confident it will be great to just dial in the tempo I want through out the song/sequences when ni implements this feature.

then there's good work around kings like ben grimm, dude is full of work arounds but he's not trying to shut maschine down from becoming an even better instrument than what it is and I really appreciate his tips and insight same with lotuz and saintjoe but something they all have in common is that they are not against maschine getting better.

sampling is an artform that is dear to my heart, some of you have no idea what I'm talking about and for some of you this artform is more important for you than it
is for me, I wish we can all get along and learn to listen to other musicians unlike ourselves because there is alot we can learn from each other.

Some of you are going way overboard and obsessed with discounting any feedback from those who use MPCs and Maschine. Are you jealous because we own both? This is really weird.

Many of the forum members here have come from an MPC background. Maschine is based upon the MPC concept. Many of the feature requests can be found on an MPC. NI has been adding MPC-like features with Maschine's OS updates.

The "MPC" features I request are no brainers and should be in a modern product like Maschine. Maschine is a sampler, why would anyone not want better sample editing? Maschine's hardware is being advertised as being tightly integrated with its software. However, there are functions that you can't access from the hardware and you must use a keyboard/mouse. Why would anyone not want to see this area improved? Drum layering, arpeggiators, step/grid editing, audio/midi mixers, better implementation of MIDI, recording mutes/solos, timestretch, etc, etc...are all functions found on MPCs that many of us would like to see added to Maschine. If you don't like these features...fine. But don't discount the users that want/need these functions or be offended that NI would add features that are similar to an MPC...especially when Maschine is concept based upon an MPC.

Last point....if you look in any forum dedicated to music production products (software or hardware) you will find numerous feature request threads from actual users and non-users alike. This will never change. Getting upset because someone wants something that you don't want/need is weird.

    @JAHROME:

And your position is understandable. The issue is that you don't just suggest features. If that were the case I don't think anyone would get defensive. The issue is when you say things like the MPC is the best midi sequencer ever or that Maschine is a plastic toy.

I definitley agree that maschine needs to be better in certain categories as do most people here. However I don't think that NIs goal with Maschine is to make an MPC emulator even though from your posts that is clearly what you want Maschine to be. I really don't think that is where NI is going with the product. They actually seem almost hell bent against it.

I would love it if Maschine had a better midi implementation and sequencer. I would love it if Maschine had better sampling capabilities and hope that NIs strategy is not to soully rely on their VSTs to provide better sampling capabilities (like timestrestching). I would have liked that NI concentrate on these features first natively and worry about VST integration later.

I guess the main question people ask themselves when they see your post is, if you like the MPC so much why don't you keep using that? Turning Maschine into an Akai bastard child isnt helping anyone, least of all NI. NI needs to pave their own path and they will do that however they see fit regardless of how receptive they've been to feature requests from the community.
