Whichever one fits your needs best.

You aren't giving people much information at all, but regardless, people will only tell you what they like, not what's going to be best suited for you.

You don't need a MIDI control. Just map hotkeys to your laptop keyboard.

Listen dude...maybe rushing this setup so you can play a gig this weekend isn't the best solution for you.

You need to give this a little time so you get familiar with the system. You know what I mean?

On that note... You also can just buy any controller that looks cool now, that you can afford and might buy, and test it out. This works best if you're buying from a local Guitar Center or something similar.

When you have a 30 day return policy in the store with no restocking fees for open stuff, you really have a 30 day free trial.

My VCI started sending CC info to Traktor randomly after a year of use, but I bought an extended warranty, it's getting fixed...

I've got the Numark Total Control, and it works fine for me.
I appreciate it's not the top end of midi controllers, and doesn't have the most features etc, but to me it is the one that looks the most like a real mixer, which has been a major help to me learning to use it.
Some of the midi controllers you see around look sweet as, but I wouldn't have a clue how to use them!
There are also configuration files to download for it, so you don't have to assign the functions yourself. Again, it got me started quickly, which I was happy about.
I will in the future start to map the buttons myself, and make some changes, personalise it etc, but it is very quick and easy to set up intially, and if you've ever used a normal club mixer, then you'll be working with this really quickly.

Best is to play with the mouse for a little while, get use to the interface of traktor, see wat things you use most, and find a midi controller that support enough buttons to fit all your needs. It may take a little research, but its better if you are sure you have all the controlles you need on the setup. Its bad if you bought something and have to grab back to the mouse because you dont have enough buttons on your midi or they located at bad location. Look for pictures on the internet, and make a little scheme of how its gonna work with traktor. I came this way to a combination of faderfox and x-session controller. everything i need fits in this combination, and more, i still have a some buttons left i didnt give a function jet. im verry happy with my setup now.

Personally, its like anything, you need to learn how to use the software and the controller together and keep practicing. I owned the Total Control and loved it and only sold it to purchase something more advanced.

I would purchase the Total Control as its natively supported by Traktor and even comes with Traktor LE and the Traktor template. I think the VCI is for the more professional of DJ's who like a lot more hands on and quality and maybe come from a more traditional background of DJing.

If your in the UK get yourself the Total Control from <here> at a spot on price too!

    vci or numark total control

hmm, i think vci and numark are alike, i use a combination of faderfox dx2 and evolution x-session to fit all my needs.
Numark and vci are good controls to start with, if you like to go more advance, make sure you have enough buttons.
