I am considering buying an electric violin and would like some effects/rig to go with it.
I've been looking around some forums and a lot of people have been saying that they just use equipment normally marketed for a guitar since the electric violin scene is fairly small.
I just wanted to check and see if you thought it would be compatible.

(sorry if this is the wrong section, I wasn't quite sure where to post this)

yep. totally compatible. just needs a 1/4" jack (but there are adapters if it doesn't).

    Exactly what daverlee said.
I don't use an electric violin, I just use an adapter with an amp (for my acoustic violin), but I know what you're talking about.
What brand are you buying? Where from?
Feel free to PM is you have any more questions.

Yep-good to go, just like a guitar input. Been doing this for years with great results. One thing to watch is if you really get "wild" with some of the octave or doubling effets that you be playing pretty well on the money tuning wise or you"ll get some pretty foul sounds-then again, that might be what you would want sometimes. (devil went down to Georgia!)

    Awesome! Thanks you guys!
I was fairly sure, but wanted to be 100% before buying anything.

    Use a bow like this:

This guy either found a guitar designed to accommodate a bow oe cut the body to gain some freedom of movement when using the bow:

Something in these videos may inspire you:

Just found this post. Take a look at the ebow at: https://ebow.securesites.net/home.php

This will go a long way to getting that bowed sound. That, a good pickup and electronic processing (clean distortion) will also help.
