I think Massive having 8 modulators is a perfect number. However there are often times where 4 LFOs (whether you are using LFO, Stepper or Performers) isn't enough - and in this case you usually have a surplus of Envs.

What I would like to see is the 8 modulators fully assignable to either envelopes, steppers, performers, or lfos. This way you could use 6 Steppers, 1 Performer and 1 Env if the preset calls for it. Or even 8 Envs in a single patch.

This also fits with the simple, configurable nature of Massive. It seems pretty natural, doesn't it?

Come on, NI - or other users. Thoughts? I just butted up against the 4 LFO limit again today. Please let us choose our modulators!

I agree. I feel just 4 envelopes and 4 lfos - especially just 4 lfos - is limiting. Ideally I would like an unlimited amount of each (only limit your CPU). Why provide limits when using computer programmes?

Well, even now Massive is a terrible CPU hog, I can imagine it going even worse with these features added. Though I admit it sounds cool to have on board :D

I don't feel LFOs are adding to much to CPU usage. Try this: add some lfos one at a time to a monophonic patch and check the cpu usage. It seemed minimal when I tried it.

On the other hand, removing oscillators and filters from a patch shows serious CPU usage. I think thats where the bottleneck (rightfully) lies.

I still feel a configurable 8 modulators is the way to go. Thats plenty enough for most any patch. But as it is, most of the envelopes go unused while I frequently use all 4 LFOs and wish for more...

I've found myself wondering why it wasn't like this already, it would be a nice feature.

There should definitely be more modulators , but as evil dragon said it probs would be a big cpu hog. But what the hey

More lfos and envelopes will only use more CPU when they are used. Plus Dual core PCs and now even Quad Core PCs are available for such amazing prices, Massive shouldn't really be a CPU hog for most users. Whilst not wishing to make Massive unusuable for those with lower spec setups (which adding more LFOs and enevelopes wouldn't do) I think Massive would be even better if it took full advantage of the ever increasing CPU power and reduction in prices.
