Can anyone explain the use scenarios for the output i.e the left and right Phono outputs vs the 3.5mm line out?

I’ve got Mackie active speakers at home should I be going out of the phono leads into XLR male, or should I be going from 3.5mm into XLR male

But for portability I got battery powered Minirigs that have just a 3,5mm input see my video I used the phone to 3.5mm in this instance but volume was not as loud as I thought it would be, maybe I should have just used 3.5 to 3.5 for my portable ironing board setup?

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks

    Shaun

Honestly you can use either one (they function the same), although I recommend using RCA for your "main out: because the RCA connectors are a bit more secure and less prone to being unplugged when tugged. When I use the S2MK3 at my local club I use an RCA to XLR adaptor for the main and an 1/8" M to dual 1/4" F for the booth out (because the booth usually takes L/R TRS).

Its not as nice as using the Z2 or S4MK3 which have their own separate booth outs with volume control but I understand why they slimmed this down (you can just adjust the volume for the booth directly on the speaker(s) haha).

Many Thanks! What about 15 metres into 2 Mackie Thumps? (the have XLR and 1/4" inputs)

I'd definitely recommend a short RCA to XLR adapter or cable (that way if anything becomes unplugged it'll be right there and you won't have to chase wires). Then you can use XLR to XLR cables to go to your speakers. XLRs have the advantage over TRS/1/4" inch cables because they can chain together, they have a locking mechanism so they do not come out as easily, and all pins make contact at the same time so it makes it less likely to get pops and clicks if you plug/unplug things when speakers are powered on.

Ironing board setups are hilariously awesome!
Btw, what's the track name in your video? Sounds very familiar.

Can you use both outputs at same time? Might be useful for recording mixes

I would use an active unbalanced (rca) to xlr converter. A battery powered one.
So that you can pump up the output signal to normalized xlr level output.

It will also avoid ground loops.
