I've been searching the net for an answer to this problem, but I've come up with nothing yet. Thanks in advance if any of you can help me out. Here goes...
Hardware: 2 Technics 1200mk2, Denon DN-X120 Mixer, Novation Nio 2/4 Audio Interface, PC
Software Traktor Pro (not Scratch) 1.2.7
Problem: I would like to record my turntable mix using Traktor Pro, but I cannot get sound to come out of the speakers.
I have the turntables connected to the mixer, which is then connected to the audio interface via RCAs from the mixer's Master output. There is only 1 RCA 'Line In' Red/White RCA connection on the audio interface, so I connect the RCAs there. This 'in' is labeled 1/2.
I then go into audio settings in Traktor and change the Recording source to External, assign one of the A-D channels, and I then assign connection 1/2 to that same channel in the Input Routing section.
In the Output Routing section, I assign connection 1/2 because the RCAs that lead to my speakers are connected to 1/2 on the Output section of the Audio interface.
When I open up Traktor to attempt to record, if I play something on one of the turntables, I can see the bars bouncing around in the Record section of Traktor, but I hear nothing out of the speakers. If I press the Record button, and then play back the file that has been created, there is actually music that has been recorded. Problem is that I can't hear it while it is being recorded!
I've tried turning everything up to full blast, which gets the bars bouncing into red in the recording section display, but nothing out of the speakers. The crossfader is in the correct position, and all volumes have been tried. Everything on the mixer seems to be set right. I also use Traktor for mixes using my VCI-100, and have had no problems with that. Please help this simple man figure this out!

Have you changed your Traktor decks to "live input"?

I have not. Can you instruct me on how to do that? I've tried to find that option but I cannot. Thank you for your help!

Click on the letter on the top right of the Deck header (A, B, C or D) for the decks you're routing the audio to. There's an option for "Live Input".

I just did it. On my old Traktor Pro (1), I had to change it to "Audio Through." It worked!!! ...only there's another problem :( I have to turn all the gains and volumes to max just to hear it. The volume on my speakers is up pretty high, and if I had these gains and volumes up this high with my VCI100 hooked up, the whole neighborhood would hear what I'm playing [if the speakers didn't blow first]. Any suggestions? Thank you so much!!!

Yeah, that doesn't sound right at all. Can you post a screenshot of your Traktor preferences (input and output routing)?

Actually, I just reread your post. I don't think you want to be using External mode for the way you've got it setup. You should try the same routing but use internal mode, and make sure your Nio 2/4 is set as your audio device under Audio Setup.

External mode is for running your soundcard outputs into a mixer, and having your mixer as the master volume controls, but it sounds like you're doing the opposite (running the mixer into the soundcard).

Ok. Wow, that is an old version :) So, you're on Internal Mode which is what you want. You want the Output Master to be set for both Output 1 & Output 2 (you've only got Output 2 set). Also, make sure the RCAs coming out of your Sound Card are coming from 1/2 (I'm not familiar with the Nio 2/4, so I'm not sure where those would be). Also, I can see that the master volume is low (its the volume knob in the screenshot above the headphone icon at the top). That's the master gain output from Traktor, and its pretty low from the screenshot.

"Mixing Mode" (under "Output Routing") has always been on "Internal," and I only changed the "Recording" source to external. I just tried changing that back to internal, and it had no affect on the volume issue.

Duh! hahaha, thank you!!! I never have to turn the main up very high with the VCI hooked up, so I didn't even think of that. I guess the only issue is that the gains would have to be up really high for recording because the recording bars aren't going very high as I use just the "Main" to increase the listening volume. Sounds like I'll have to fiddle with the Mixer main volume and the soundcard's gains to get everythign matched up. You are a life saver!
